The Surprising Connection Between Jonathan Bailey’s ‘Wicked’ and ‘Bridgerton’ Roles

Before filming began on Wicked, Jonathan Bailey knew there was someone—or rather, a horse—he needed to work with again.

“I went to [director] Jon Chu before we started filming, and I said to him, ‘I think I know who that horse is,'” Bailey revealed in a new behind-the-scenes post on Wicked’s TikTok. A confused Chu asked Bailey what he meant, and Bailey replied, “It’s Jack, the horse I rode in Bridgerton, the horse I had a great relationship with.”

Both of his characters—Fiyero in Wicked and Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton—are equestrians, so both projects required Bailey to work closely with an animal. In this case, it was the same horse.

“People say don’t work with kids and animals, but if it was Jack, I’d say, ‘take that job, he’s a legend,’” Bailey said. Watch a short clip of Jonathan and Jack on Wicked’s TikTok:

In another interview on the Popcorn Podcast, Bailey also heaped praise on Jack, saying the horse “needs a special mention, I worked with him on Bridgerton so we built a trust and a relationship. He’s incredibly focused and he’s been a very stable partner.”

Wicked is set to hit theaters worldwide on November 22, and Bailey—along with the rest of the cast—has been on a whirlwind promotional tour. Bridgerton season four is currently in production, and while Bailey has confirmed he’ll be returning, it’s likely he’ll have a much smaller role in the upcoming season.

“I’m scheduled to come back in a few weeks,” he shared earlier this year about the Netflix Regency romance. “The great thing about Bridgerton, which is great, is that there are so many different ways you can fall in love as human beings and that’s what this show is going to explore. Obviously as the older brother, I’ll be there to support the young people as we go forward.”
