Chenford’s fiery chemistry during The Rookie season 7 had the fans excited for the couple’s potential future. Each episode has been designed with beautiful, situational arcs for Tim and Lucy, who are both dedicated to their jobs and each other, even if they haven’t taken that final leap (yet). While it’s determined Chenford’s destiny, I’m absorbing as many of their crumbs as possible.
The Rookie, meanwhile, will be closing in season 7 with its two remaining episodes, leading to the season finale airing on ABC come May 13. Everything will amplify rather quickly and wrap up storylines, but there might be a celebratory moment regarding Chenford.
In the April 29 episode of season 7, episode 16, “The Return,” Tim offered his full support to Lucy as she was about to make a critical career advancement. Needless to say, her step-up could be the turning point, as the procedural has decided to make it a focus for Chenford.
In TVLine’s “Reader Questions Answered!” section published on May 6, Matt Webb Mitovich revealed that the two remaining season 7 episodes will feature more Chenford content. Suffice to say that Lucy’s fate relies on her sergeant exam results (her critical career advancement), and there could be good news for her and Tim.
Mitovich’s response to the fan question, “Any scoop on #Chenford and Lucy’s sergeants’ exam results and fallout over the final two episodes of The Rookie?” was the following:
“There is a twist or two regarding those exam results.”
The situation can go either way, and that’s the thing I’m most nervous about. Here’s the positive side: Lucy aced the exam with flying colors, leading to the reward of her and Tim officially getting back together, and all is happily ever after. Or she failed the exam despite Tim’s support, which caused a rift between them. In the worst-case scenario, they broke whatever they had going for them completely, never seeing one another again, with the exception of the LAPD.
However, if it is the latter, the chemistry and hook-ups would all be for nothing, and that would be harsh to the fans who have invested in this developed relationship. Understandably, it’s the writers’ choice to determine Chenford’s fate and whether Tim and Lucy’s reign as The Rookie‘s favorite couple will continue.
That being said, season 7’s finale promises to be explosive, but I’m holding on to hope that it works in Tim and Lucy’s favor.
