In recent seasons, The Rookie started telling bigger stories, often taking a case from arrest all the way to court. While this is how most police procedurals tackle their weekly cases, what made the show stand out was its focus on patrol officers. The producers said that Season 7 represents a “pivot” back to the original idea for the show.
The addition of two new training officers — Deric Augustine as Miles Penn and Patrick Keleher as Seth Ridely — helps the series get back to the grounded storytelling that made it a hit. While there are episodes that introduce a big spectacle for TV, most of the time the characters and their cases have a narrow personal focus.
When to Watch The Rookie Season 7, Episode 10, ‘Chaos Agent’
Viewers Who Miss the Debut on ABC Can Stream It on Hulu the Next Day
Audiences can tune into the 10th episode of The Rookie Season 7, “Chaos Agent,” at 9 PM Eastern, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 on ABC. The show will debut the following day on Hulu for those who prefer to stream the episodes. Originally, the series debuted at 10 PM on Tuesdays, but with the end of the first season of High Potential, Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan and company hit screens one hour earlier.
From the synopsis for Episode 10, it’s unclear who the titular “Chaos Agent” will be. The promo for the episode promises all sorts of challenges for the characters. It will provide the typical balance struck in The Rookie where Nolan, Melissa O’Neil’s Lucy and Alyssa Diaz’s Detective Angela Lopez are out on the streets working a case. However, back at the precinct, Richard T. Jones’s Wade Grey will have a lot to deal with, too.
The tease for “Chaos Agent” shows that a group of unruly prisoners are being held in the Mid-Wilshire police precinct. Things get out of control when a power outage strikes, and a fight between inmates kicks off some bedlam. The promo even shows that fan-favorite character, Quigley Smitty (played by Brent Huff), gets hurt. Why these prisoners are sent to the Mid-Wilshire precinct is just one of the things about this episode that viewers will have to wait until its debut on 9 PM, Tuesday to find out.
What to Expect from the Rest of The Rookie Season 7
The Police Officers and Their Trainees Will Face Interesting Challenges
There are also some other more serialized stories, from character romances to the fate of one of the new rookies, that will likely be advanced. The biggest character romance on The Rookie is “Chenford,” meaning the pairing of Lucy Chen and Eric Winter’s Tim Bradford. They broke up in Season 6, but the show continues to tease a reunion may be possible.
There are other lingering story threads from the previous season. What happened to Bridget Reagan’s criminal lawyer Monica Stevens is an open question, and fans expect her return. Similarly, despite Tru Valentino’s Aaron Thorsen exiting the series, viewers hope for at least one guest appearance from the former series regular. Time will tell if the show delivers these characters.
While Nolan is still the central character, The Rookie has an impressive ensemble cast. With only 10 episodes in the previous season, some of them were short-changed. However, with 18 episodes in Season 7, The Rookie is able to make full use of the cast and further develop the old and new characters alike.
