If you were hoping to see more of the lives of the cops on The Rookie, there is some good news. Season 7 will spend more time in the homes of each of the characters. This led to a joke about a spin-off, that we’re sure should and could happen.
In an interview with TVLine, Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, and Melissa O’Neil talked about what’s to come in the season. This led to a discussion about how we’ll go into the personal lives of the cops a little more this season. Of course, personal lives mean that we’ll get to see more of Harper and Lopez being moms.
The Rookie spin-off is one that moms could like to see
The two joked about a potential spin-off because of that. It’s called Cop Moms, and part of the idea came from fans in autograph lines talking about how great a spin-off with Cox and Diaz’s characters in the lead would be. We have to say we agree!
The idea is that the series would go into the personal lives of the women who happen to be both cops and moms. What is life like for them as they juggle it all? After all, we know that the work life for moms isn’t always easy. There is still a lot of prejudice within the workplace, and there is also a lot of negativity outside when people find out moms work (or don’t, because you can never win).
Diaz went on to offer a great tagline about the series. “[It’s about] them being moms, being cops — which one is more dangerous?!”
This would make for a fun spin-off series. Maybe there could be just one episode in The Rookie that focuses on this. Let’s see the two women take centerstage for a whole episode as they manage motherhood and work at the same time. Maybe it could even be their day off.
