The Rookie star Shawn Ashmore promises the upcoming finale is a “powerful, strong” sendoff for Season 7.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Ashmore explained that specific moments in upcoming episodes were highlights of both his time on set and for his character, defense attorney Wesley Evers. “There’s one episode in particular. I won’t spoil anything, but it has to do with a personal relationship at the DA’s office,” Ashmore said. “I think it’s just a really powerful, strong episode.”
“I got to do some great work with one of our recurring castmates who’s very, very strong, but I don’t want to give it away. But it’s a strong storyline,” Ashmore added. “I really, really enjoyed it. So I don’t want to spoil too much. But yeah, there’s some good stuff coming up. And the end of the season is pretty exciting too. I remember shooting that last scene being like, ‘Oh yeah, this is going to be a good one.’ There’s a lot to look forward to.”
There’s a lot to look forward to.
Ashmore has portrayed Wesley Evers on The Rookie since the series premiered back in 2018. The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, a late-in-life rookie with the Los Angeles Police Department who joins the force following a life-altering encounter with an armed robber. The series also stars Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Alyssa Diaz as Detective Angela Lopez, Mekia Cox as Detective Nyla Harper, Eric Winter as Officer Tim Bradford, and Melissa O’Neil as Officer Lucy Chen. The Rookie Season 7 premiered on ABC on January 7, and has garnered largely positive reviews so far.
In March, 9-1-1 star Oliver Stark, who portrays firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley on ABC’s other hit procedural, discussed the possibility of a crossover between the two series in the near future. “The Rookie seems like an obvious and easy crossover,” said Stark, who noted that both series take place in Los Angeles. “So that seems to make sense to me that there could be some mass casualty event that all the police stations and all the firehouses are at.” Stark also brought up the possibility of having each series’ respective cast meet each other on less tragic terms before leaving off with, “I’m still game for, one day, The Rookie crossover.”
