The Rookie Season 8: Showrunner Finally Confirms Tim and Lucy’s Shocking Relationship Status

The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley officially confirms Chenford’s The Rookie season 8 relationship status. The fan-favorite couple Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen, affectionately known as Chenford, have been a prominent part of The Rookie since Tim became Lucy’s training officer in season 1. A romance blossomed between the two, and their coupling has been one of the most popular in the show. Chenford’s split in The Rookie season 6 came as a shock to viewers, but there have been indicators the former couple might get back together.

Per Swooon, Hawley discussed the possible reunion between Tim and Lucy in the upcoming new season, and whilst he refused to go into details, his update appears to be a positive one. Hawley revealed that the last scene between the two shows that progress has been made, and “a corner has been turned.” He didn’t go into details, but confirmed that the couple will get back together at some point in The Rookie season 8. Check out Hawley’s comments below:

“Beyond that, I’m not 100% sure yet.”

When discussing the possibility of the pair moving in together, Hawley continued…

“That’ll be the question rolling into Season 8. I do think that we’ve put those characters through a lot on their journey back, and I think we’re almost there.”

What This Means For Chenford’s The Rookie Season 8 Prospects

Things Are Looking Up For The Former Flames

Following Tim breaking up with Lucy in season 6, it was important for The Rookie to avoid getting the duo back together too quickly. Tim had his reasons for ending the relationship, and, while his worries may have been unfounded, it showed the couple had some issues. They needed this time apart to grow and evolve as individuals, as well as be able to find out more about themselves and what they want. If they had gotten back together in The Rookie season 7 it would have felt like a bit of a pointless split, so it’s a good thing that they didn’t.

The Rookie season 8 finally bringing them back together arguably is the perfect timing. The pair has been through a lot individually since they separated, allowing them to learn more about themselves and as a couple. Ultimately, they have realized they’re happier together. Finding their way back to one another organically is the best approach to take, and there is a good chance the two will reconcile, move in together, and be strong for the remainder of the series.

Whilst it has been oddly fun and interesting seeing Tim and Lucy apart, and how they’ve been able to evolve as characters, they are two characters in The Rookie who belong together. I hope the show will not go down the route of breaking them up and getting them back together multiple times, and, with no guarantee of a renewal beyond season 8, they need to be back together and planning for the future by the end of The Rookie season 8.
