The Rookie Season 8: Melissa O’Neil Hints at Lucy’s Game-Changing New Training Arc

The Rookie season 8’s training for Melissa O’Neil teases an exciting future for Lucy Chen. Production for the next installment of the procedural is about to start, which means that the actors will be preparing to take on the roles of the best cops in the LAPD, including stunt training. Action is a key piece of the show and, now that the show is approaching a long-standing status, every season must be bigger and better than the last.

Melissa O’Neil’s character Lucy Chen has undergone a lot of changes in season 7. From becoming Sergeant to moving to the night shift, to a possible reunification with Tim, she has a lot to prepare for in The Rookie season 8. The last few seasons, the show has focused on her personal life. Now that she has made a huge advancement in her career, we will likely see some very intense action sequences involving Lucy.

Melissa O’Neill Reveals Her Upcoming Stunt Training For The Rookie Season 8

Her Training Indicates A Big Change For Lucy Chen

It is no secret that The Rookie is full of action. The actors train extensively to ensure the scene turns out exactly the way it was supposed to and to look as real as possible. In a recent interview with CTV, O’Neil discussed her stunt training for the upcoming season of The Rookie.

This year, actually, when I get home from this trip, I am going on a three-day stunt driving course. So I’m really excited. I want to do some crazy maneuvers on camera… I do get into it. I love it. I love it so much.

This training course is setting up a big year for Lucy Chen. Now that she is riding alone a lot more and is no longer part of the day shift with her friends, she will have the chance to really shine in these action sequences. O’Neil has been on the show since the beginning and this new training course will help to continue her character as she follows a new path in her career.

O’Neill’s Training For The Rookie Season 8 Means More Action-Packed Scenes For Lucy

It Is Time Lucy Got Some Of Her Own Action Scenes

The Rookie has put their characters in harms way countless times, which makes sense, considering their line of work. Understandably, it doesn’t look like that is going to change at all for season 8. In fact, it looks like Lucy is going to be at the very center of many of these scenes this time around. Now that she is Sergeant of her very own crew, it is expected that she would want to be in action with them to ensure they make the correct decisions.

Lucy has never been one to stray away from a fight. She will dive in head first if that is the right call, and that is what makes her a great member of the Los Angeles Police Force. As the new leader of her own crew, however, she is going to not only put her decision-making skills to the test with a difficult crew, but she is also going to show them exactly how it is done. This is an important aspect of her arc moving forward, as she tries to get to fully know her crew.

Why The Rookie Needs To Develop Lucy Beyond Her Relationship With Tim

She Is More Than Just Tim’s Other Half

Lucy and Tim’s relationship has been the centerpiece of her storyline since she was his rookie in The Rookie season 1. She has always been tied to him in some form or another. Season 8 provides a rare opportunity for Lucy to expand herself beyond Tim and his influence and to begin to form her own path in the career she has worked so hard for. She is so much more than Tim’s rookie or Tim’s ex-girlfriend. This separation in season 8 gives her the breathing room to prove this to the rest of the LAPD.

If there’s one thing we know about Lucy is that her determination and natural instinct will take her beyond what she thinks she is capable of.

Throughout the series, we have seen Lucy grow as a cop and as a person. In order for her to continue to develop, it is only right that she develops her new position as Sergeant without Tim or anyone else. Even though she did not become an undercover cop like she initially wanted to, this new position gives her the chance to achieve this in future seasons of The Rookie. If there’s one thing we know about Lucy is that her determination and natural instinct will take her beyond what she thinks she is capable of.
