The Rookie Season 7: Shawn Ashmore Teases a “Powerful” Finale That Will Leave You Speechless

The Rookie star Shawn Ashmore has teased season 7’s final scene and a “powerful” upcoming storyline for Wesley as the procedural continues. The Assistant District Attorney has continued to hold a strong presence throughout The Rookie season 7, even as the show has been focused more on characters like John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). However, he has continued to prove himself dedicated not only to his position, but also to the family he has with Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz).

Speaking with ScreenRant, however, Ashmore hinted at The Rookie season 7 having a story for Wesley that sees him come back into the forefront of the series. Without going into spoilers, the actor explains how a personal relationship at the DA’s office” leads into a memorable storyline. He also teases the return of some nondescript recurring characters, before revealing the final scene he shot in the season 7 finale is one of its most memorable. Check out what Ashmore had to say below:

Yes. I honestly couldn’t tell you what episode it is because shooting 18 episodes, stories start to blend. But there are a few moments that I’m really excited that are great for Wesley, but there’s one episode in particular. I won’t spoil anything, but it has to do with a personal relationship at the DA’s office.

I think it’s just a really powerful, strong episode. I got to do some great work with one of our recurring castmates who’s very, very strong, but I don’t want to give it away. But it’s a strong storyline. I really, really enjoyed it. So I don’t want to spoil too much. But yeah, there’s some good stuff coming up. And the end of the season is pretty exciting too. I remember shooting that last scene being like, “Oh yeah, this is going to be a good one.” There’s a lot to look forward to.

What Ashmore’s Statement Means For The Rookie Season 7

Wesley’s New Storyline Could Prove Very Interesting

Although it’s unclear what Wesley could be up to, his story can divert attention away from other characters in The Rookie to give him a bigger spotlight. Right now, some of the largest long-term focuses include the ups and downs of Tim and Lucy Chen’s (Melissa O’Neil) relationship, along with the potential aftermath of a massive April Fools’ Day crime spree across Los Angeles. The ADA’s new story seems more personal, something that’s reflective of his focus on the legal system over the more action-heavy situations other characters find themselves in.
