Fran Drescher announced on Tuesday that the original cast of The Nanny would reunite for a virtual table read of the iconic sitcom’s pilot episode.
Drescher said they arranged the read so fans of the show could indulge in a laugh during such uncertain times due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
This is not a drill, Fran Drescher fans!
According to Variety, the original cast of the iconic ’90s sitcom The Nanny is reuniting next week for a virtual table read of the series’ original pilot episode. The show’s star confirmed the news with an enthusiastic Instagram post showcasing the cast rehearsing via a Zoom video call.
“NANNY FANS ALERT! It’s happening!!!! MONDAY 4/6 the original cast of The Nanny together AGAIN in a virtual read of the pilot episode!!! Link and time soon!” revealed Drescher via the post.
Last week, the actress hinted that she was planning something special for fans when she tweeted she had a “surprise” in the works for the show’s devout fan base. Some fans were speculating that they would receive an announcement regarding the complete series finally heading to a major streaming platform, since for now, only the first two seasons of the show are available on Roku. This cast reunion news, however, might just be the only gift fans would have wanted more.

“Laughter is the best medicine! So, in these challenging times, Petah and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of ‘The Nanny’ for a virtual read of the pilot?” posed Drescher in a statement. “Petah” refers Drescher’s ex-husband, Peter Jacobson, who created and produced the beloved sitcom with Drescher.
“It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well,” continued Drescher. The actress assured fans a link and designated time for the table read would come soon.
Though the series came to an end more than 20 years ago in 1999, The Nanny has solidified its status as an evergreen source of inspiration to the fashion world. The actress openly credits social media and the Internet as support to the show’s sartorial legacy during an interview with BAZAAR.com.
“[Appreciation of the show’s fashion] makes me happy,” Drescher tells us. “I mean, it’s like, I don’t know if social media and the Internet didn’t explode right after The Nanny happened, would anybody still really be talking about it?”
Somehow, we have a feeling they would.
