The Nanny Star Fran Drescher Shares Her 10 Favorite Episodes of the Show
The star and creator of hit 1990s sitcom, The Nanny, Fran Drescher shares her favorite episodes of the series during its six-season run.
Fran Drescher shares her ten favorite episodes of her hit series, The Nanny. Drescher co-created the comedy alongside Peter Marc Jacobson about a recently dumped cosmetics saleswoman hired by a wealthy and widowed Broadway musical producer to be a nanny to his three children. The show premiered in 1993 on CBS and ran for six seasons, also starring Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, and Madeline Zima.
Much of the humor stems from the show’s quirky characters and relationships, including Drescher’s character, Fran Fine, an overbearing and fashionable personality with a nasally voice and laugh opposite Shaughnessy’s Maxwell Sheffield, a British, high-class patriarch. Much of the series revolves around their tension and attraction for each other, along with the love-hate sexual relationship between Niles, the butler, and C.C., Maxwell’s business partner. The show also features Fran’s eccentric friends and Jewish family, including her food-loving mother, her forgotten grandmother, and her dimwitted best friend.
In talking to E! Online, Drescher shared her picks for her favorite ten episodes of the show’s six-season run. The show has a total of 146 episodes and narrowing it down to just ten can be challenging. Below is Drescher’s top ten episodes of The Nanny, in chronological order:
Pilot (Season 1, Episode 1)
Smoke Gets In Your Lies (Season 1, Episode 2)
Imaginary Friend (Season 1, Episode 7)
Stock Tip (Season 2, Episode 9)
Take Back Your Mink (Season 2, Episode 12)
Lamb Chop’s On the Menu (Season 2, Episode 20)
Where’s The Pearls (Season 3, Episode 20)
Hurricane Fran (Season 4, Episode 11)
The Wedding (Season 5, Episode 22 & 23)
Yetta’s Letters (Season 6, Episode 20)
All of these episodes of the show are unique in their own right and are loved for individual reasons, ranging from bonding of characters like in ‘Take Back Your Mink’ and ‘Imaginary Friend’ to high production values and spectacular fashion like in ‘Yetta’s Letters ‘ and ‘The Wedding.’ Many of them include iconic scenes, physical humor, and a few feature guest star celebrities. And, of course, from a creator standpoint, the early episodes of the first season will always strike a chord with Drescher. But all of them are hilarious and memorable.
With the news that all episodes of The Nanny are now available to stream on HBO Max, fans can go back and watch the many hysterical moments from the show and those who have not yet seen it now have the chance to discover it. The show still has its devoted fan base after over two decades of being off the air and its popularity continues to grow with the series now being adapted into a Broadway musical by Drescher and Jacobson with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator, Rachel Bloom. So, fans can now look forward to more of The Nanny, and the musical will no doubt feature many of the elements that shape the show, including what is featured on Drescher’s list.
