“The Ideal Relationship: Oliver Stark Shares Buck’s Wishes in ‘9-1-1′”

9-1-1 has some of our favorite relationships on TV right now. In fact, three of the 118 members are in long, stable, loving marriages, and they also show off their strong partnerships. The other two firefighters are still figuring things out. That includes Buck (Oliver Stark), who has been unlucky in love and is currently dating his co-worker Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.).

When TV Insider caught up with Stark for the latest episode and got some teases about the obstacles that are coming for Buck and Tommy, we had to wonder: Does Buck want a relationship like the others — Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi), and Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) — with their current romances and partnerships, or is he still figuring it out?

“I think everyone wants someone who they clearly have romantic feelings for, but who understands each other’s work. And I think the thing about this show or first responders specifically is that their jobs are probably pretty hard to relate to, and there’s an overriding situation there that I don’t think a lot of other jobs require,” Stark told us (as you can see in the video above). “So I think the fact that a lot of the relationships on the show are focused on couples where they’re both in this world is probably because of that, that it’s hard to maintain a relationship maybe with certain jobs because there’s just a difficulty in understanding or relating to the things that they go through.”

He added, “Obviously right now he’s with someone who’s a first responder in Episode 5. But yeah, I think in the long run, that would be, I mean, not necessary but helpful.”

When it comes to Buck’s relationship, Stark teased some twists and turns in Episode 6 (airing November 7). “I’m looking forward to [that]. “I like that Buck is so confident and goes to the people around him to ask questions and advice,” he shared. “Buck is going to learn more about Tommy’s past, and that’s going to send him into a spiral. And yeah, he’s going to have to lean on the people around him and get some real advice, which I think is pretty profound.”
