The ‘Golden Hour’ podcast cohost officiated Turner and Nist’s Golden Wedding in January. Three months later, he filed for divorce
The Golden Bachelor’s Susan Noles understands that not all relationships work out.
So when it comes to Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s divorce, “my biggest thing was letting everybody know, just be kind,” Noles, 67, tells PEOPLE in a joint interview with her Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour podcast cohost Kathy Swarts. “S— happens. Who are we to judge?”
Noles says she and Swarts “care deeply” for both Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, and Swarts believes “they’re doing what they have to do” by moving forward separately.
Nist, who lives in New Jersey, and Turner, who resides in Indiana, announced on Good Morning America on April 12 that they’d be ending their marriage after three months because they couldn’t agree on where they would live. Noles officiated Nist and Turner’s live, televised wedding in January and Swarts served as a Gold Carpet correspondent with former Bachelorette Charity Lawson. Now, “we all wish them a lifetime of love,” Swarts says.
Despite The Golden Bachelor ending with a divorce, the show still gave millions of viewers hope that love can be found at any age.
“It’s the age of possibilities,” Noles says. “It’s not over yet. It’s the best chapter. Seventy’s the new 50!”
Swarts hopes she and Noles can show people that age doesn’t have to dictate how you dress or act.
“We don’t act old,” Swarts says. “We are breaking those traditional barriers of you have to wear your hair a certain way or dress a certain way, or you can’t do that activity [because] you’re over 50.”
Adds Noles, “I defy all it. Unapologetically.”
The reality stars would love to bring on some other famous ladies over 50 to chat with on Golden Hour. They name Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand and Cher as dream podcast guests.
“I would love to hear from Cher, someone from my generation who has lived a lot of life,” Swarts says.
Noles agrees, calling the 77-year-old pop star “ageless.” “Let’s send that out to the universe!” the wedding officiant adds.
The former Golden Bachelor contestants fully support making things happen for themselves. “We want to infuse people with that courage to just go and live your life,” Swarts says. “Because no one’s going to do it for you.”
Swarts plans to do just that when she takes a family trip to Italy’s Amalfi Coast later this month to celebrate turning 70. “It’s going to be fun because I don’t have to cook,” she says, quickly adding, “Oh, wait, I don’t cook here!”
The retired educational consultant doesn’t consider herself a foodie whatsoever.
“I’m looking forward to Italy, but to me, I’m looking forward to meeting the people and absorbing the culture and the scenery. The food, I don’t care,” Swarts says. “Throw me a peanut butter sandwich! I’m going to be the first person who comes back from Italy thinner than she left.”
Swarts and Noles took a trip to St. Martin earlier this year with their former castmate Nancy Hulkower and “we had a fabulous time,” Noles says. “And somebody’s trying to get us to do a cruise for fans. We’re up for anything!”
