The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner calls himself a breakup ‘novice’ as he reflects on show

Gerry Turner admitted the break-ups didn’t get any easier as he said goodbye to the 21 women hoping to be his romantic partner.

The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner admitted he felt “sadness” with each elimination on the hit reality dating show.

The Golden Bachelor's single women

When the ABC spin-off premiered in September, fans were glued to screens as the 76-year-old retired restauranter got to know 22 single women.

As they all hoped to find another chance at romance, the weekly rose ceremony was often met with heartbreak when a contestant was eliminated.

In a recent interview, Gerry reflected on the task and revealed sending the women home didn’t get any easier.

He stated: “I absolutely would not consider myself qualified to teach a course on healthy breakups.

“Just because I did it 21 times does not make me an expert,” he added in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “It’s like I’m a novice 21 times.”

Gerry also admitted he experienced heartbreak as the women were eliminated.

This was seen during the hometown date when the star broke down and walked out of the rose ceremony when he had to choose between Faith Martin and Theresa Nist.

After giving a rose to Leslie Fhima, Gerry told host Jesse Palmer: “I know what I want to do. I just don’t want to do it.”

The Indiana native continued: “Each one of those exit interviews felt different than others.

“Because of the individual, I had a different reaction to it, but the fundamental agreement across the board was the sadness because they all had to leave.”

When the Golden Bachelor returned, it was revealed that Gerry ultimately chose Theresa which left Faith in tears and “numb.”

The upcoming episode will finally unearth who won over the father-of-two and became the winner of the show’s debut season.
