The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner recently took part in a talent competition as a judge, but fans weren’t happy with his involvement. In recent months, Gerry has been battling a deteriorating reputation that became damaged after he and his wife Theresa Nist announced their divorce after only three months of marriage. These two reality stars were initially fan-favorites when they first appeared in The Golden Bachelor season 1. While Theresa and the other contestants receive a lot of positivity from Bachelor Nation, Gerry just can’t catch a break.

Gerry announced on Instagram that he was one of the judges for a local talent competition called So You Think You’ve Got Talent on August 17, which he called an “honor” and also a “tremendous amount of fun.” He acknowledged how talented the contestants were and congratulated the winners. Unfortunately, this new life update didn’t sit well with his critics.
While some of his fans showed up in the Instagram post’s comments section to leave positive messages, there was still a lot of negativity in the mix. Multiple people slammed the Golden Bachelor star for supposedly being unqualified to judge a talent competition. @Lisaashtonpsychicmedium sarcastically remarked, “Yeah because you’re qualified to judge a show? LOL not.” Elsewhere in the comments section, he was called a creep, with @Semauriello telling Gerry that it’s “time to EXIT the stage.” Meannwhile, @Lorraineg1224 admitted they “lost all respect” for Gerry.

Gerry has been dealing with a lot lately. His new Instagram post about judging the talent competition came two days after the Golden Bachelor star revealed that his dog Cody died at age 11. On that post, he received over 600 messages from social media users sending him condolences. That type of reaction is unusual because almost everything Gerry posts on Instagram receives a lot of negative reactions.
It obviously made sense for fans and critics to take a pause and honor Gerry’s dog. However, that reprieve ended quickly as his critics went right back to attacking him in his most recent post. When he receives negative feedback, Gerry sometimes responds by lashing out or leaving sarcastic quips. As of this writing, he hasn’t reacted to the most recent backlash. Considering he’s in mourning over his dog, Gerry might be taking a break from reading the comments section.
Gerry’s almost always on the receiving end of criticism and negativity, even if his updates are very positive and not at all controversial. It’s been over four months since he and Theresa announced their divorce, enough time for people to move on. However, Gerry still remains a lightning rod for controversy. It’s completely understandable why he has come under fire, but at this point, it doesn’t make sense to continue the vitriol. Maybe it’ll take The Golden Bachelorette season 1 airing in fall 2024 to turn the attention away from The Golden Bachelor star and onto a new villain.
