The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos is revealing some behind-the-scenes production secrets as she prepares to leave to begin her journey as the first-ever lead of The Golden Bachelor spin-off series. Joan, a 61-year-old private school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, got her start on Gerry Turner’s Golden Bachelor season. They were forming a deep connection when Joan had to leave the show to return home to her daughter, who was experiencing postpartum depression. After much speculation about who’d be cast, Joan was announced as the star of The Golden Bachelorette season 1.

Joan is leaving on June 13 and will be away from her family for seven weeks to film The Golden Bachelorette.

In a June 12 Instagram post, Joan shared a video of herself packing for The Golden Bachelorette, for which she’s leaving on June 13.

With her baby grandson, Maverick, in the background of the video, Joan revealed that she was bringing her own clothes, but she didn’t know what to pack because she didn’t know what any of the dates would be. She had three full suitcases, including one just for shoes, because she had “no idea” what the weather would be like in Los Angeles during this time of year.

Joan shared that the beginning of her journey is “bittersweet” because she revealed that she’s leaving her family for seven weeks and “that’s a little scary.” She lamented that Maverick is learning how to crawl, and he’d probably know how to do it after she came back in seven weeks. However, she’s excited that she might come back after finding “the love of my life and someone to share my great life with.” Joan also shared that her family would be flying out to Los Angeles with her to film some Golden Bachelorette promos. She’s “excited” about that.

Joan’s devotion to her family, including her four children and three grandchildren, was evident during The Golden Bachelor, so it’s not surprising that they’ll be playing a big role in the beginning of her journey. It’ll be wonderful to finally meet her family members after hearing so much about them on the show. Joan’s husband, John Vassos, passed away due to pancreatic cancer in 2021. Now she’s ready to find love again.

Joan was the perfect choice for the first-ever lead of The Golden Bachelorette because of her calm, kind, and dignified demeanor. She deserves a second chance to find love in her life, especially after her selfless action of exiting The Golden Bachelor early for her family. Joan is ready to begin her journey, and with her supportive family by her side, hopefully she’ll live happily ever after with the new love of her life after The Golden Bachelorette.
