THE GOLDEN BACHELOR: Gerry Has Made His Decision After ‘Fantasy Suites’; Who Will He Choose Leslie or Theresa?
On Thursday’s penultimate episode of the first season of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner faced the all-important ‘fantasy suite’ week on the reality-dating competition series.
Arriving in Costa Rica for the episode, he shares, “I thought by the time I retired at 55 I had had all the excitement I was going to see and all the high moments. Little did I know that 17 years later, I’m in the greatest adventure of my life. I can’t believe how close I am to finding the second love of my life.”
But is he? Gerry has narrowed down his second chance at love to two women … Leslie and Theresa. When asked how he views the fantasy suites, Gerry believes that being behind closed doors, “you are able ask the difficult questions that are strictly between two people, and also have the opportunity to be physically intimate with each other.”
Gerry’s first date is with Leslie. He tells Leslie, he received some advice he got from The Bachelorette’s first leading woman, Trista Sutter (née Rehn). “You have to find the one that you can’t live without, not the one you can live with.” He then tells Leslie, “I think you’re the One. I think you’re that one.”
He goes on to say, “It’s like I have to have you with morning coffee and have to have you when I go to bed at night. That’s what it is, and I don’t know how we would decide where we would live (she’s from Minnesota, he lives in Indiana). We’d have to figure that out. But I think there’s no one else I’d rather try to figure it out with.”
Leslie responds, that she compares Gerry to an old shoe, which is apparently a compliment, saying being with him is, “comfortable” and “fits well.”
Next, on his horseback riding date with Theresa, the question becomes, “Will he tell her that he loves her, as he is done already with Leslie?” Gerry admits to himself, “I’m looking at Theresa going, ‘My God, what is wrong with you, Turner? She’s the ideal woman for you,’ but at the same time, I’m thinking, ‘What’s Leslie doing right now?”

She’s the ideal woman for you,’ but at the same time, I’m thinking, ‘What’s Leslie doing right now?”
However, Gerry had an eye-opener of a dinner with Theresa. She discussed her career, as well as her reasons for signing up for the show after giving up on love following her husband’s death. Since Gerry lost his wife, and she her husband, they share a common bond.
After their night in the fantasy suites, Gerry admits, “Waking up with Theresa this morning, I feel like it’s the first day of the rest of my life. I realized we understood each other on a very fundamental level. All of the questions or trepidations that I had about Theresa were gone in the first hour or hour and a half of conversation. It was incredible.”
Gerry is left stuck. Who would he choose … Theresa or Leslie? He shares, “Right now, I’m dying inside. I’m in love with both of them, and in each case I’ve told them ‘I love you.’ With each of them I can see a life together. Life with Leslie would be a very exciting life. She’s adventurous. She looks out for me and I look out for her. But Theresa and I have this bond. We know what the other person is feeling. We know what we’ve been through.”
The cliffhanger of the episode comes ahead of the November 30th season finale, when Gerry admits, “Someone is going to come out of this situation hurt beyond what I can imagine, and I’m running out of time. At this point, I know I can’t put it off any longer. As hard as it is, I think I’ve made my decision.”
