5. Gerry Faked His Feelings Throughout The Golden Bachelor
He Wasn’t Truly In Love With Anyone
Gerry’s relationships on The Golden Bachelor were difficult to follow at times, because they became so serious, so quickly. While the feelings that the cast were developing seemed to be genuine throughout the course of the series, it wasn’t clear what the timeline of the show was. Once it was discovered that the filming was done in a six-week period, it became abundantly clear that Gerry wasn’t actually falling in love with anyone on the show, even if it felt real.
Though Gerry and the rest of the Golden Bachelor contestants were running on adrenaline and felt like they were bonding, the romantic relationships on the series were somewhat more contrived than other Bachelor shows. Gerry’s relationship with Faith Martin, for example, seemed like a genuine mutual match, but it was clear by the time he chose to eliminate her that Gerry’s feelings weren’t genuine. He was consistently lying to the women of his season about what he was looking for, likely because he didn’t know himself.
4. Gerry’s Relationship With Theresa Nist Was Contrived
Their Connection Was Built Up By The Show From The Start
Although Gerry wound up with Theresa at the end of The Golden Bachelor season 1, their relationship seemed the most contrived from the start of the season. With opening night taking place on Theresa’s birthday, giving Gerry the opportunity to bring her a cupcake, help her make a wish, and share the first kiss of the season with her, the sweet moments that the pair shared were created by production from early on. Theresa, who seems genuine from her time on the show, was used to build Gerry up.
With Gerry and Therea having spent the subsequent weeks of the season getting to know one another during kitschy dates, one including a 1950’s style flash mob, their relationship felt like a production plant throughout the season. While it was clear that Gerry was finding somewhat more of a connection with other women on his season, like Faith or Leslie Fhima, the focus on Theresa was a major part of the season. Overall, it felt like it was fabricated throughout The Golden Bachelor.
3. Gerry & Theresa’s Wedding Was Disingenuous
It Was More Of A Bachelor Special Than A Wedding
After announcing their engagement and sharing they’d be getting married in just a few short weeks during The Golden Bachelor live finale, Gerry and Theresa went into hyperdrive appearing everywhere possible. Their live wedding special was a major moment in Bachelor Nation history, and the couple were candid about how rushed and extreme it felt, but continued with it anyway. During The Golden Wedding special, things got even more cringey as the night wore on.
Despite featuring clips of the couple preparing for their wedding and integrating their families, Gerry and Theresa’s nuptials were more of a Bachelor Nation event than a wedding. The crowd was composed of Bachelor Nation alumni, including people who Gerry and Theresa had never even met, and hosted by The Golden Bachelor’s Kathy Swarts and former Bachelorette Charity Lawson, the event was more of a red carpet than anything else. With the ceremony only lasting a few minutes, Gerry’s wedding to Theresa wasn’t genuine.
2. Gerry Wasn’t Hurt By His Divorce
He Simply Wanted To Move On
Gerry and Theresa’s divorce wasn’t necessarily shocking to Bachelor Nation, who’d been able to tell there was some trouble in paradise for a while after not seeing the Golden couple together much after their wedding. While rumors were swirling about issues between Gerry and Theresa, who were struggling to compromise on where to live after their wedding, it didn’t seem quite as dire as a divorce yet. Still, when Gerry and Theresa’s divorce was announced, Bachelor Nation wasn’t heartbroken, and it didn’t appear that Gerry was, either.
During the televised announcement that they’d chosen to end their marriage, Gerry didn’t seem emotional or saddened by the fact that he and Theresa wouldn’t be staying together. In fact, he seemed so composed that some thought he’d never actually planned to stay in the marriage long-term. While a lot of Gerry’s behavior was odd, the fact that he wasn’t hurting about his impending divorce was difficult to understand.
1. Gerry Has Tried To Maintain His Popularity Post-Split
He Wants To Be A Reality TV Personality
Although he’s been keeping a lower profile than when the show was airing, Gerry has been trying to stay on the radar after The Golden Bachelor projected him to fame as a reality TV star. While Gerry has been keeping his social media up to date throughout his time outside of the series, there have been reports that he’s hopeful to continue his reality TV fame. Despite any confirmation that he’s been doing so, Gerry’s social media presence appears to lend to the idea that he wants to stay in the public eye for as long as possible.
With Gerry having reportedly joined The Golden Bachelor as a jumping-off point after seeing how successful Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval was being dubbed a villain, his motives for joining the series have become unceremoniously unclear. Though Gerry may have been in it for love, it’s not clear if he wanted to find someone to spend his life with, or wanted to make a name for himself. Either way, The Golden Bachelor star has done his best to retain his popularity after appearing on the series.
