The trailer for the Ghosts season 4 finale reveals the return of the show’s most annoying spirit. The hit sitcom, from executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, is a long way from the finish line. Ghosts season 5 is confirmed, as is season 6. But before then, the upcoming finale looks to set up a few cliffhangers and address lingering threads. There’s the return of the villainous Elias (Matt Walsh) and the reemergence of Patience (Mary Holland), who many spirits find annoying. Her return may not help her case all that much.

In the trailer for the Ghosts season 4 finale, Patience returns. While everyone is having fun at a party thrown for Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Patience is disturbed by the idea of deviled eggs, and she makes it known. This puts Sam (Rose McIver), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), and the rest of the party guests on edge. The season 4 finale, titled “The Devil Went Down”, premieres Thursday, May 8, at 8:30 PM ET on CBS.

There Could Be Trouble Ahead

The finale is directed by Christine Gernon, with the story by Brian Bahe and Emily Schmidt & Greg Worswick credited for the teleplay. “The Devil Went Down” will be a big celebration in honor of Isaac’s vampire book at Woodstone. Even though Isaac and Patience made peace early on in Ghosts season 4, there may still be some tension between the former close friends. In any case, at least, Patience may not approve of the idea of a vampire book. But the bigger threat may well come from the finale’s other returning guest.

When viewers last saw Hetty’s ex-husband, Elias was trying to get Jay to sell his soul for success. Jay was unaware that he’d be damning himself for eternity, or even that he was talking to an evil spirit, but he still said that he needed to think about the offer. It could be the case that Elias rejoins the sitcom, looking to give Jay a final push. The question remains whether he’ll be successful in those efforts.

It Should Be A Game-Changer

Heading into a two-season renewal, there’s a case to be made that Ghosts should shake things up in significant ways and gradually introduce new stories that will impact the characters in the long haul. The episode can be big for several characters, as the sitcom sets up its next 2 years. Hopefully, the finale could do that.
