Created by Dick Wolf, FBI is CBS’ fictional crime drama that follows special agents at the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The elite team investigates the most dangerous criminal cases, including terrorism, organized crime and counterintelligence. The series premiered in 2018 and has spawned two spin-offs: FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.
Ahead of the Season 6 premiere, Missy Peregrym, who stars as Special Agent Maggie Bell, warned fans to brace for a heartbreak, telling TV Insider: “We lose a family member.” She added of the opener: “It’s a very heavy episode about the risk of the jobs that we do and how much it affects us when things go the wrong way, and that’s how we start the season.” Zeeko Zaki, who plays Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, chimed in, noting that one of the main characters on the show is “super close to it” and will likely feel responsible.
In the premiere episode titled “All the Rage,” fans learned that Roshawn Franklin’s Special Agent Trevor Hobbs was the family member in question. Read on for all the details on Trevor Hobbs’ departure.
Why did Trevor Hobbs leave FBI?
Why did Trevor Hobbs leave FBI? In the Season 6 opener, Trevor Hobbs was tragically killed off. Hobbs was a special agent and intelligence analyst at the Joint Operations Center. He was first introduced during Season 2 and although he was not one of the main players, he was an integral part of the team. He helped find key intel for the field agents and occasionally got involved in the action as well, including during his final mission.
After the team was called to the scene of a deadly city bus bombing, which claimed 10 lives, they enlisted Hobbs to help track down the terrorist. While doing some undercover reconnaissance at a local restaurant, Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) encouraged Hobbs to follow the terrorist into the bathroom. As a result, Hobbs was shot at close range and killed.
Hobbs’ death sent shockwaves through the agency and was particularly hard on Wallace, who we see exhibit some aggressive behavior later on the episode. In an interview with TV Insider following the premiere, Kane discussed how her character is coping with Hobbs’ death and the call she made. “It’s hard for her to reconcile that a good call can also mean the death of somebody that you care about and especially teammates, someone who also puts their life on the line,” she said of Wallace. “There’s a little bit of survivor’s guilt that also comes with those kind of situations.”
While speaking to Parade, showrunner Rick Eid teased that the “consequences of this tragedy will linger throughout the season.” Referencing Wallace, he added: “One of our characters feels responsible for this person’s death … These feelings of anger and guilt will definitely reverberate throughout the season.”
FBI airs on CBS on Tuesdays at 7/8c and streams on Paramount+.
