For most of the cast of CBS’s Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, this isn’t their first rodeo—far from it! Five of the six main actors have previous ties to legendary sitcom producer Chuck Lorre, known for bringing together familiar faces in his projects.
Emily Osment has worked with Lorre on five different shows. Before joining Young Sheldon in Season 5, she guest-starred in a Season 10 episode of Two and a Half Men, appeared in Season 3 of Mom, and had a recurring role in The Kominsky Method. Then, late last year, as Young Sheldon was gearing up for its seventh and final season, Osment received a life-changing call from Chuck himself.
“Chuck Lorre called me on my house phone,” Osment recalls, surprised he even had her number. “I remember picking up and hearing about the potential spin-off of Young Sheldon. I was speechless—of course, I said ‘yes.’”
Osment expresses her gratitude for Lorre’s support throughout her career. “He’s kept me working since I was 18. Every show he creates is such a wonderful world. I hear from our crew that this is the best job in Hollywood. People want to be a part of Lorre’s productions because it’s such a warm environment. I wake up excited to go to work every day.”
Osment’s TV mom, Rachel Bay Jones, also has a history with Lorre, having recurred on United States of Al. After that show wrapped, she joined Young Sheldon as Audrey McAllister in Season 6. She credits co-creators Steve Holland and Steve Molaro for creating a fantastic workplace.
“It’s amazing how everything comes together,” she says. “They craft stories that run like a symphony. You may not think about that when watching a sitcom, but Chuck creates a space where everyone can shine. There are no egos; we all just want to do our best. So, the obvious answer is ‘yes’ when they invite you to join this world.”
Will Sasso, who plays Mandy’s father, agrees. He’s also worked with Lorre, guest-starring on Two and a Half Men and appearing in Mom. “The atmosphere on set is fantastic. It truly feels like a family, which is essential for a show. That connection translates to the audience, and I believe it gives us something special.”
