The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar opens up about “amazing” reunion with co-star on Night Court
The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar has opened up about his recent on-screen reunion with co-star Melissa Rauch.
Nayyar starred as astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali on the long-running sitcom, alongside Rauch who played microbiologist Bernadette Rostenkowski.
The show ended back in 2019, but the pair recently reunited when Nayyar guested on the most recent episode (February 6) of Rauch’s legal sitcom Night Court.
The NBC series is currently on its second season and is a reboot of the popular 1980s sitcom. Rauch plays lead character Abby Stone, a magistrate who presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment.
In the episode, Nayyar played fashion designer Martini who was a brief love interest for Abby, and the show even referenced the actors’ past, with Abby saying to Martini: “There’s something about you that weirdly feels like… have we met before?”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nayyar opened up about what it was like to reunite with his co-star after a long time apart.
“It was amazing,” he said. “We had spent almost 12 years of our lives together every single day. And then the pandemic happened, and then everyone’s got families, and I was spending a lot of time in London and India, and I hadn’t physically been with Melissa in a while.
“So that whole week of rehearsal, we just kept staring at each other, sitting next to each other. There wasn’t really much to say! Being in each other’s presence was a real joy.”
Nayyar was also full of praise for Rauch and spoke about their “deep connection” after years of working together.
He said: “We’re very, very close. She is like a sister to me that I’ve never had… It’s an unspoken language of deep love and deep trust and deep connection that you can only experience if you go through a journey like that together for that long period of time.
“So our relationship is beyond close. It’s just deeper than that.”
