A Reddit user explained that The Big Bang Theory lost its original charm after adding unwanted characters, changing its quirky comedy feel.
In the world of comedy, making a unique mark is not an easy feat, and only a few sitcoms have managed to leave a lasting impression on the audience. While FRIENDS captured the hearts of millions, after its conclusion, The Big Bang Theory took over the screens with its brilliant comedic timing and sometimes hard-to-understand science jargon.
But all in all, the viewers loved how the characters interacted with each other along with their socially awkward demeanor. But according to one fan on Reddit, while the initial seasons of TBBT were good, as soon as the sitcom gained popularity, the creators started adding more elements that ultimately doomed it.
Reddit User Detailed What Ultimately Ruined TBBT
The Big Bang Theory premiered in 2007 and was initially seen as just another show trying to make its mark on television. While the premise of bringing in five to six characters in front of a live audience wasn’t new, soon the viewers realized just how amazing the show actually was.
Jim Parsons with his Sheldon Cooper quickly became a fan favorite, and the sitcom skyrocketed to massive fame. It was at this exact moment that the creators of the show decided to bring in several new plots and storylines to enhance its appeal.
While some worked for the show, others simply failed to create the same magic. This was the main reason why a user took to Reddit and detailed how The Big Bang Theory lost its charm over the years.
The user added that initially, the driving force of the storyline was how the four geeky scientists were awkward around women. And how Sheldon, with his unhinged statements and remarks, was a complete a***hole to everyone. After the inclusion of new characters like Amy and Bernadette, the storyline further changed the entire personalities of the main cast, most importantly Sheldon’s.
The jokes and sarcastic jabs also became a bit too generic for the public’s liking. This also led to a drop in the quality of the show, with romance plots that didn’t quite fit with the original vibe of the sitcom. In the midst of this, there were certain positives as well, as Penny’s character was appreciated in the later seasons when she transformed into a hotshot pharmaceutical sales rep from her initial “dumb blonde” role.
While this was the thought process of some fans, for others, TBBT remains one of the most sought-after sitcoms in television history.
Would Jim Parsons Reprise His Sheldon Cooper Role for a TBBT Reboot?
All the Big Bang fans have a special bone to pick with Jim Parsons, who was one of the main reasons why the hit sitcom ended in 2019. While it has already been five years since its conclusion, the fans of the show are still hoping that one day the cast will bring back a reboot of the sitcom.
And to the dismay of many, Parsons yet again detailed in an interview why that won’t be happening any time soon. The actor mentioned that it was a “blessing” to play the character, however, he has no plans of participating in a reunion. He added:
As we sit here now, no, but I also I would I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much. You know, one of the things is that it was so special as what it was as what it is. And they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be certain it wouldn’t be that.
Playing Sheldon Cooper on TBBT earned Parsons four Emmy Awards as well as a Golden Globe. Interestingly, apart from the show, he has also narrated its spin-off, Young Sheldon, from 2017 to 2024.
And he also made a cameo in the finale of the show, reprising his iconic Big Bang character. Along with him, even Mayim Bialik made an appearance on the show as Amy Farrah Fowler.
