‘The Big Bang Theory’ Star Mayim Bialik Open To Returning for New Spin-Off

The Big Bang Theory franchise continues to grow with another spin-off series in the works from Chuck Lorre, and one of the original stars from the beloved original wants to reprise her role in the new show. The Big Bang Theory first aired in 2007 on CBS and ran for 12 seasons, with a total of 279 episodes, before coming to a close in 2019. The series starred Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch. Mayim Bialik was introduced in the show’s fourth season as Amy, a love interest to Sheldon (Parsons). After the show wrapped, Bialik reprized the role in the series finale of Young Sheldon, the first Big Bang Theory spin-off show. But, that wasn’t enough, and she’s now set her sights on the new reboot that’s in the works.

During an interview with TV Line to promote the new season of Night Court (which stars Melissa Rauch), Bialik said she would love to return as Amy Farrah Fowler in the new, untitled The Big Bang Theory spin-off. “I would 100% reprise Amy,” Bialik said, firmly. The new spin-off was announced in April 2023, with co-creator, Chuck Lorre, developing. Very little is known about the new show, as the plot remains tightly under wraps. All that has been revealed is that the series will be released directly on the Max streaming app.

Bialik confirmed she hasn’t been approached by anyone at Warner Bros. to appear in the new spin-off yet. However, she would return in a heartbeat if given the chance. “I have no qualms about [returning],” Bialik continued. “I think it would be fantastic. I know that people have such a special attachment to all these characters. I read about it on Deadline like everybody else. But I would love to get a call, sure.”

What We Know About the New ‘Big Bang Theory’ Spin-Off

The plot of the new Big Bang Theory spin-off is a bigger mystery than Penny’s last name. As previously mentioned, the show’s story remains tightly under wraps, as well as which of the original main characters will return. Moreover, it hasn’t been confirmed if the spin-off will be shot on a sound stage in front of a live audience like The Big Bang Theory, or if it will take a more grounded approach like Young Sheldon.

‘The Big Bang Theory’ universe grew into spin-offs ‘Young Sheldon’ and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,’ but very few characters are in all three.

The only plot tease came by way of Chuck Lorre. The Big Bang Theory’s co-creator revealed that the new series will follow a new core cast of characters. However, he also teased that beloved characters from the original flagship series would also pop in and out of the spin-off. While we don’t know who the main cast will be, we already have some idea of which fan-favorite characters will reprise their roles. Kevin Sussman has officially joined the series, returning as Stuart Bloom, the owner of the gang’s local comic book store. Lauren Lapkus will also return as the shop’s assistant manager, Denise, who later becomes Stuart’s girlfriend in the core show. Finally, Brian Posehn will make even more rock jokes in the new spin-off as geologist, Bert Kibbler.
