The Big Bang Theory spinoff gets major casting update with return of classic character

The Big Bang Theory’s new planned spinoff has been given a big casting update, with another classic character being lined-up to return.

The franchise is planning a new Max show that focuses on characters Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), Denise (Lauren Lapkus) and Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn).

Deadline reports John Ross Bowie is being slated to return as plasma physicist Barry Kripke, who was known to clash with Sheldon Cooper.

Bowie later confirmed the news on his Instagram page, writing while referencing his character’s speech pattern: “Exciting news from @deadline… pardon me.. deadwine.”

The untitled show, which is being written by Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady alongside Zak Penn, is yet to be greenlit.

This will be the third spin-off from the main show following Young Sheldon and its own offshoot Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which premiered last year.

Meanwhile, Mayim Bialik recently addressed the possibility of returning as Amy Farrah Fowler in the new series.

“I would 100% reprise Amy. I have no qualms about that. I think it would be fantastic,” she told TV Line, though added she hadn’t received a call about a comeback.

One star that likely won’t return to the franchise is Jim Parsons as Sheldon, who when pressed on the idea told Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?: “As we sit here now, no. But also I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much.

“One of the things is that it was so special as what it was and as what it is, and they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason. You can be certain [a revival] wouldn’t be that, and so why would we be doing it?”

“I don’t know, that’s that’s how I feel on that right now. But like I say, God willing, life is very long.”

The Big Bang Theory can be streamed on Netflix and Prime Video in the UK, and on Max in the US.
