The Big Bang Theory Storyline That Never Happened Might Finally Get Its Moment
After more than a decade on television, The Big Bang Theory wrapped up with most of its major storylines resolved. However, one lingering mystery remained: the fate of Howard Wolowitz’s father. Ironically, the reason the show never addressed it may now make the story ideal for a future spinoff.
When CBS introduced Young Sheldon in 2017, the prequel explored Sheldon Cooper’s childhood in Texas and expanded the franchise beyond Pasadena. Over time, the series grew into a full ensemble comedy centered on the Cooper family, ultimately concluding after seven seasons.
Its success led to another prequel, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which follows Sheldon’s older brother as he navigates adulthood and family life. While the show continues the timeline established in Young Sheldon, it doesn’t focus on the original group of scientists from The Big Bang Theory.
That’s why some fans believe Howard’s backstory could offer the next chapter. Throughout the sitcom, his father’s disappearance shaped much of his personality, but the character never appeared and his motivations were never explained.
According to insider accounts from the show’s production, the writers once considered bringing Mr. Wolowitz into the story. Yet Chuck Lorre ultimately decided against introducing him, leaving the mystery unresolved.
Today, that unfinished storyline could serve as the perfect starting point for a new series. A prequel centered on Howard’s childhood would not only explore his relationship with his parents but also provide long-awaited answers about the man who walked away from the Wolowitz family.
