The Big Bang Theory Earns Major Streaming Feat 6 Years After Final Season

It’s been about six years since The Big Bang Theory ended its highly successful run on television. However, the fan base for the show remains quite large, as evidenced by the new streaming feat the show has earned.

Per Deadline, the Nielsen ratings for 2024 have revealed that The Big Bang Theory is the “most-binged title” in streaming for the entire year. The accomplishment comes from the series averaging 265.5 episodes per viewer on Max, which equates to 29.1 billion minutes of total viewing. The 12-season series has 281 episodes in total, making it that much easier to binge-stream for fans.

In terms of binge-streaming, the feat refers to how viewers tend to immediately go from one episode to another while watching the show. The average episodes per viewer number comes from the amount of time a viewer will spend watching the show, and not necessarily the total number of unique episodes watched. When it comes to overall viewership, The Big Bang Theory is also ranked at No. 7 with 58% of its viewing audience coming from the key demo of adults aged 18-49.

“While half-hour programs tend to be more binge-able, the level of dedication from audiences in viewing to programs across the board was astonishing,” the Nielsen report noted.

The animated series American Dad! followed The Big Bang Theory with 175.3 episodes per viewer on Hulu. Other adult animated shows like The Simpsons, South Park, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy all made the Top 30 as well in different spots. Of course, landing at the top is great news for The Big Bang Theory, especially given the plans to make a new spinoff series on the same streaming home.

A Big Bang Theory Spinoff Is in the Works

As fans will know, The Big Bang Theory was given a prequel series, Young Sheldon, which turned out to be a major hit. After the show had a seven-season run, it came to an end in 2024, but the story was not over. The show has since spawned a sequel series of its own, dubbed Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The series features special guest appearances from Young Sheldon cast members, though Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage, has not yet appeared.

Meanwhile, there are plans moving forward for another spinoff for The Big Bang Theory. This one would bring the story back to the present day rather than going back to the past like Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. According to reports, the new spinoff will be set in the comic book store that was frequented by the characters in the original show. Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus are planned to star.
