The hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory brought together Star Wars legends James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher for the first time.
The legendary Hollywood icon, James Earl Jones passed away on September 9, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. Best known for his portrayal of Darth Vader in Star Wars, he also had a memorable appearance on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, where he met his on-screen daughter Leia (Carrie Fisher) in person for the very first time.
Despite starring in the franchise, Jones and Fisher never had the opportunity to meet in person. In a twist of fate, it was not the grand space opera but rather the beloved sitcom that managed to bring them together in a surprising and charming way.
The Big Bang Theory Reunited James Earl Jones With His On-Screen Daughter
Following the lives of nerdy friends and renowned for its portrayal of geek culture, The Big Bang Theory became a huge hit, featuring several memorable cameos along with James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher.
In Season 7, Episode 14, The Convention Conundrum, Sheldon attempts to organize his own convention after the group misses out on Comic-Con tickets. In his quest to recruit celebrities, he ends up spending an adventurous night with Jones.
One of the standout moments from Sheldon and Jones’ lively evening occurred when the late actor rang Carrie Fisher’s doorbell and quickly ran away, only for her to come out with a baseball bat, exclaiming, “It’s not FUNNY anymore, James!” To which he cheekily responded, “Then, why am I laughing??”
The show’s executive producer Steven Molaro later revealed that while filming the episode, they realized that Carrie Fisher and Jones had never met in real life. And upon meeting, Fisher humorously referred to Jones as “dad,” a nod to their iconic Star Wars roles.
She showed up and we learned that Carrie and James Earl Jones have never met in real life because, in Star Wars, James was in a sound booth doing Darth Vader and had never been to the set.
Jones also expressed his enjoyment of finally working with his on-screen daughter, even if just for a brief scene. The late actor voiced Darth Vader in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi for David Prowse, who embodied the character.
