The Actress Who Hid a Major Pregnancy from the Chicago Med Writers

Torrey DeVitto, who played Dr. Natalie Manning, kept a huge secret during Season 4 of Chicago Med: she was pregnant.

“I didn’t want the show to write it in,” she later revealed. “Natalie was in the middle of a complex emotional arc, and I didn’t want her storyline to shift because of my personal life.”

With help from wardrobe and camera tricks, the production team managed to hide her growing bump for weeks. “It was a daily challenge—coats, folders, strategic blocking,” laughed one camera operator.

Eventually, the producers found out—but they agreed to keep Natalie’s story unchanged. DeVitto gave birth quietly during the show’s hiatus and returned without fanfare.
