Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 6 “Birds of Prey” saw Severide and Pascal clash after a call that Severide felt warranted further investigation. In most situations, Pascal would have been on his side. In fact, Pascal proved to be on Firehouse 51’s side in the final two episodes, first coming to Violet’s aid after she had to deliver a baby on a call to save his life, and then allowing Severide and Kidd to investigate in Episode 5 “Down The Rabbit Hole” when they noticed a disturbing pattern in their last call.

So if Chief Pascal is against Severide keeping secrets and agreeing to “put this case on hold,” there’s a reason. Especially considering the call involved a ghost gun, it means something big is going on. And maybe the reason Pascal agreed to bury whatever was going on has to do with all the secrets we know he’s keeping.

But what Pascal might not know is that Severide is like a dog with a bone when he smells something fishy. Pascal complimented Stella Kidd for the same reason at the end of Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 5 “Down the Rabbit Hole,” but Stella isn’t the only one who won’t give up. Except this time, there’s a chance that if Severide keeps pushing, he’ll find something Pascal really doesn’t want him to find.

In many ways, this feels like it could be a turning point for Pascal and Firehouse 51. He’s not Boden, not trying to be, but Pascal is actually more of a fit than anyone would have any right to expect given the shoes he’s filling. But he’s a man with a lot of secrets and a very strange relationship with his wife. That always makes the show feel like it has to pick up the slack if he’s going to fit in. Because Pascal has been a decent boss so far, but there’s one thing he’s not—and is very far from—family. And that’s Firehouse 51.

And if there’s anyone who’s not only going to find out but is willing to confront him about them, it’s Kelly Severide. However, Chicago Knowing Fire will not only reveal all of Pascal’s secrets right away, but also give us a little hint of what he’s hiding, enough to make us want to know more and then leave it at that.

Right now, whatever the Chief is hiding, this group won’t necessarily support him. However, they might support him if he’s honest with them. Whether Pascal has realized that or not is still hard to know.
