Taylor Sheridan Moves On With Promising New Show ‘Landman’.
Taylor Sheridan might have started as an actor, but he sure has established himself as one of the best screenwriters in the world of entertainment. Dabbling across different genres, his work in the Western genre has been particularly notable. Known best for creating the world of Yellowstone, it seems Sheridan is way past his alleged feud with Kevin Costner.
While Kevin Costner has been battling a sea of negative reviews for his ‘self-funded’ passion project, Horizon film series, and leaving Yellowstone mid-season, Sheridan on the other hand is potentially set for success even bigger than the Dutton-saga with his latest series, Landman.
Taylor Sheridan’s Future Looks Hopeful Despite the End of Yellowstone
Taylor Sheridan has been in the entertainment industry for quite a while, but he did not become as big as he is now until his Western series, Yellowstone, was released. Despite his impeccable talent and writing gift, many believed that Kevin Costner‘s involvement was just as important as Sheridan’s.
With the series finally ending, albeit abruptly, Sheridan has proven the said critics and fans wrong with several of his projects like Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and more. And it seems, Sheridan will continue to do so as far as his future series, Landman, is concerned.
Starring the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and more, the show looks highly promising. The official premise of the show reads (via The Hollywood Reporter),
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.
Created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, the series will contain 10 episodes in total. With a story that seems fresh and intriguing, it seems Sheridan is enough to make a show a success. While the Yellowstone-helmer continues on this path of potential success, Costner on the other hand has been having more than a hard time.
Kevin Costner’s ‘Epic’ Horizon Saga is a Major Disappointment
Kevin Costner’s Horizon Saga has been a long time in the making and the first of the ‘highly-anticipated’ movie series is in theatres now. Despite the franchise being his dream and passion project, for which he even fished $38 million+ out of his own pocket, the first film of the saga has been worse than a disappointing feat (see Variety).
Currently having a 48% rating on Tomatometer, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 has been described by many as a disappointing, lusterless feature that makes no sense and is excruciatingly long. Since Warner Bros has only spent on the distribution of the first film, the majority of the movie’s financing has been the responsibility of Costner.
With the first movie having made only $23 million so far (via The Numbers), the future for Costner and his passion project looks bleak. The results are even more disappointing when one considers that Costner put his acclaimed role in Yellowstone at stake for the sake of working on the Horizon film series.
As Taylor Sheridan continues to climb the ladder of success higher and higher, only time can tell where Costner will end up after the completion of Horizon: An American Saga.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is in theatres now, while Landman will debut on November 17 on Paramount+.
