It’s been more than a decade since Chicago Fire first roared onto NBC screens, and Taylor Kinney still can’t quite believe it. Thirteen years, hundreds of calls, countless flames — and yet, the star who’s brought Kelly Severide to life since day one says the fire at the heart of Firehouse 51 burns brighter than ever.
“From the First Scene, I Knew This Show Was Special”
Kinney reflected on his journey in a heartfelt message celebrating the show’s milestone 13th season.
“From the very first scene we shot — the engines roaring, the flames rising, and that adrenaline rush — I knew this show had something special,” he shared. “I’ve been lucky enough to step into the boots of Kelly Severide for over a decade now, and every season, every episode, every call has meant something.”
When Chicago Fire premiered in 2012, few could have predicted it would spark a full One Chicago universe, connecting Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and Chicago Justice through shared stories of courage and community. But Kinney says the show’s endurance goes beyond drama — it’s about the people.
“It’s the cast, the crew, the writers — and the fans,” he said. “They’re the reason we’re still here.”

A Family Forged in Fire
Over 13 seasons, Kinney has seen the show evolve through marriages, heartbreaks, rescues, and tragedy, both on and off screen. Through it all, he says, the Chicago Fire set has become a second home.
“I’ve made lifelong friends on this set — not just castmates, but family,” he explained. “We’ve celebrated milestones, supported each other through tough times, and shared more laughs than I can count.”
That closeness, he believes, is what gives the show its authenticity. “There’s a real sense of unity and trust among us. I think that’s what brings Chicago Fire to life in such a raw and real way.”
Season 13: A New Chapter for Firehouse 51
As Chicago Fire moves into its thirteenth season, Kinney says the excitement hasn’t faded.
“Season 13 isn’t just a number — it’s a new chapter,” he teased. “The writers, directors, and crew are pouring their hearts into making sure we keep that fire burning. What’s coming next will blow you away.”
With Severide stepping into new leadership challenges and the bonds of Firehouse 51 tested like never before, the veteran actor promises the drama and emotion fans love will be stronger than ever.

Gratitude for the Fans
Kinney saved his most heartfelt words for the audience who’ve kept the show alive for more than a decade.
“To our incredible fans: thank you for being there — whether you’ve been watching since day one or just discovered us,” he wrote. “Your passion, your messages, your stories — they fuel us. You are just as much a part of this journey as any of us on screen.”
He closed with a simple but powerful message:
“So here’s to 13 years of Chicago Fire. Here’s to the memories, the moments, and the millions of lives touched by this show. And here’s to the future — may it burn even brighter.”
