Brace yourselves, #Tarlos fans, because your favorite ‘ship is heading into rough waters.
In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek of tonight’s 9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox, 8/7c), T.K. asks Tommy for advice on how to handle the “tough times” he and Carlos are going through. Provoked, T.K. feels Carlos’ obsession with his father’s murder is intruding on their marriage and making it harder for them to connect.
“He’s still as obsessed with it as the day it happened,” T.K. explains. “It feels like living with an addict. I mean, I should know, right?” When Tommy encourages him to be honest with Carlos, he replies, “I wish, but I feel like the more I push, the less he cares about me.”
Then things get a little awkward. “How are you and Trevor doing?” T.K. asks, forcing Tommy to reveal the events of last week’s episode: “Uh, we didn’t… we didn’t… we broke up.” Cue T.K. wanting to crawl into a hole and die of shame.
Luckily, Tommy still has some leftover advice from her marriage to Charles, prompting her to open up about a dark period in her life that we didn’t expect. But then, we’re shocked when suddenly a character played by Gina Torres is revealed to be anything but perfect.
“That scene was very cathartic,” Ronen Rubinstein (aka T.K.) tells TVLine. “It’s a moment for Tommy to really see T.K. as a son and for T.K. to see Tommy as a mother. Gina and I have bonded on such a beautiful level this season. It’s definitely my favorite scene with Tommy so far, and I think it’s one of my favorite scenes I’ve ever had as T.K. on so many levels — especially since it’s something he’s going to talk to his mother about, and how important she is to him. The fact that he feels comfortable and safe enough to come to Tommy and have this conversation really shows the progression of their relationship and their dynamic.”
