The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos has recently opened up about some major lifestyle changes she’s made that have helped her become more healthy and active now that she’s in her 60s.
In an interview with Business Insider about her partnership with Aspercreme, Vassos explained how she has added fun hobbies, such as pickleball, into her regular routine. She has also made it a habit to do strength workouts at home, and remarked how easy it is to just pull up a YouTube video to workout, rather than have to go to a gym. The reality TV star is a big fan of partaking in an energetic group activity, such as walking or pickleball, to combine a workout with a social aspect. Meanwhile, Vassos has also described how these active changes in her life have allowed her to have more energy to travel and play with her grandkids. Now that she’s in her 60s, she has realized that she doesn’t have to slow down, saying:
“Age is just a number and it shouldn’t define what you do and who you are. When I was growing up, as you became a grandmother, you were expected to slow down and act like a grandmother. And I feel like that is so not true anymore.”
Joan Vassos Also Detailed Her Healthy Diet
In the interview, Vassos did not only explain her new workout routine — but also went on to detail that protein is a huge part of her daily diet. The Golden Bachelorette revealed that she normally relies on lean meats, such as a rotisserie chicken or some turkey, throughout her week.
However, this doesn’t mean that the reality TV star doesn’t indulge once in a while. In fact, Vassos explained that she doesn’t deny herself food at all — even if it’s rather unhealthy food. To the TV personality, moderation is everything. For example, she’s not a big wine drinker. However, if she’s out for dinner, she will not hesitate to indulge in a glass.
The same goes for sweet treats. While some people may steer clear of any and all sweet snacks when they’re trying to be healthy, Vassos does the opposite. She always makes sure her kitchen is stocked with her favorite cookies and chocolates. Vassos has explained that she would be unhappy if she denied herself a sweet treat throughout the day. She feels that a few cookies aren’t going to kill her, so why deny herself a little pick-me-up? The reality star has said that she’s all about a happy and healthy life — and that life involves some chocolate.
The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 can be streamed on Disney Plus and Hulu. Meanwhile, The Golden Bachelor Season 2 has yet to be announced, though Bachelor Nation has put out a casting call for potential contestants.
