Stellaride’s Real-Life Connection: Taylor Kinney Praises Miranda Rae Mayo’s Impact on Chicago Fire

For over a decade, Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have worked side by side on Chicago Fire, portraying one of the show’s most beloved couples. Their characters, Lieutenant Kelly Severide and Lieutenant Stella Kidd, have transitioned from friends to lovers and, ultimately, to husband and wife, forming a cornerstone of the series.

In a heartfelt new video shared by NBC, Taylor made a rare comment about his off-screen relationship with Miranda, describing their bond as “pretty tight-knit” and likening it to a “surrogate family.” The video, posted to honor Miranda’s contributions to the series, celebrates her vibrant energy both on and off set.

Celebrating Miranda Rae Mayo’s Impact

The tribute video features not only Taylor but also Miranda’s co-stars, including Joe Minoso, Hanako Greensmith, and Daniel Kyri. Joe, who plays Firefighter Joe Cruz, praised Miranda for being unapologetically herself: “She is 100% herself all the time, and that effervescence is what Miranda brings to Kidd.”

Daniel Kyri, who portrays Firefighter Darren Ritter, added, “It’s really nice to see this badass female character who is such a boss, and that really mirrors Miranda Rae Mayo.”

Miranda’s portrayal of Kidd has made her a standout character, embodying strength, resilience, and leadership. Her marriage to Severide in the Season 10 finale, titled The Magnificent City of Chicago, was a highlight for fans, showcasing the couple’s deep connection and the unwavering support of their firehouse family.

Miranda and Taylor’s On-Screen Partnership

As Chicago Fire fans know, the relationship between Kidd and Severide, affectionately dubbed “Stellaride,” has become a fan favorite. Miranda previously shared with HELLO! that while she offers input on her character, much of the direction of Kidd and Severide’s relationship comes from the show’s writers.

“I don’t know how much input Taylor has had—he has his own relationship with the showrunners and producers, being one of the foundational elements of the show—but I do believe, though, that if he really hated working with me, it would be very easy for him to ask them to get me off the show,” Miranda joked. “And he hasn’t done that, which I am very grateful for!”

Kidd Takes Center Stage in Upcoming Crossover Event

Fans won’t have to wait long to see more of Kidd in action. On January 29, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med will unite for their first crossover event in five years. The three-hour event centers on the aftermath of a devastating gas explosion, leaving more than 50 victims in critical need of help.

The recently released trailer reveals that Kidd finds herself in a dangerous situation as she assists passengers trapped on the L train below ground. Tensions rise when Battalion Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) orders an immediate evacuation, warning of a tunnel collapse.

The stakes are even higher for Lieutenant Severide, who is desperate to save his wife. “People are still on that train, including my wife!” he exclaims in the trailer, his worry and heartbreak palpable as the clip ends with a tearful Severide.

A Dynamic Duo Fans Can’t Get Enough Of

With their undeniable chemistry and compelling storylines, Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo continue to captivate audiences as one of Chicago Fire’s most iconic on-screen couples. Their partnership, both on and off set, is a testament to the show’s enduring appeal and the strength of its cast.

As fans gear up for the thrilling crossover event, one thing is clear: the bond between Kidd and Severide—and the actors who bring them to life—remains as strong as ever.
