Hello everyone! Ready for a new episode of Maya and Carina on Station 19? Stay tuned because you’re going to love this episode!
The episode begins with someone at the fire station, the image is blurry so we don’t know who it is but as it gets closer to the camera we realize it’s Travis, then the phone rings and he picks it up, the person on the other end is none other than Maya, the captain is in a hotel room Yes! In a hotel room! Maya and Carina have gone on vacation together! The captain is nervous and starts talking to him about work because vacations stress her out, because of how she was raised she isn’t able to relax and she’s always thinking about work, the firefighter doesn’t understand anything and tells her to enjoy her vacation, drink a pina colada and have lots of sex with Carina.
Maya hangs up, and Carina appears, dressed in a bikini and sarong, ready to go into the pool. When she sees Maya isn’t ready, she opens her sarong and shows her her body, telling her that “all of that” will be waiting for her at the pool. And of course, she ends up convincing her.
Back in Seattle, Jack goes into Andy’s room to bring him coffee but finds the room empty, Dean and Vic continue to struggle with raising the girl, Warren is preparing supplies for his ambulance in the park and Owen, Dr. Hunt from Grey’s Anatomy, arrives to pay him a visit.
Andy and Sullivan are fooling around in the car, I’ll ignore these two, they bore me to death.
Travis arrives at the park and upon entering the locker room he bumps into Emmett and later Dixon, Emmett’s father and… Alicia, Emmett’s girlfriend, appear. The situation is obviously really awkward for Travis and it gets even more awkward when Travis and Alicia invite him to lunch. Travis’s face is a poem.
Andy and Sullivan have met for lunch with Pruitt to introduce the Battalion Chief as Andy’s official partner.
Dean and Vic are doing everything they can to get the girl to stop crying but they don’t know what to do to calm her down, at that moment Jack comes through the door and Dean hits the girl and suddenly she shuts up.
Warren is showing Owen the ambulance, the firefighter looks for a new partner but immediately dismisses the doctor because he keeps telling him he doesn’t have enough material for major surgeries, I never liked this character.
Sullivan is still in the restaurant and when he comes out of the bathroom, he sees a small fire in the kitchen while cooking food on one of the stoves. The boss takes the opportunity to criticize his employee for burning the food and can’t think of anything else to do but call immigration because the cook is Latino and undocumented. Seeing this, Sullivan grabs a tray, throws out the food inside, and throws the tray on the fire to put it out. He tells him that he shouldn’t take advantage of the situation to mistreat his workers.
Travis continues to have an awkward lunch with Emmett, Alicia, and Dixon. Alicia keeps telling stories about when she and Emmett were art students, and she also happens to mention that all the girls on campus were after him.
Andy and Pruitt argue because Pruitt, like many parents, doesn’t think Sullivan is a good candidate to date his daughter. Sullivan arrives and tells them what happened in the kitchen. A discussion about immigration law in the United States then arises and the conversation ends up deviating into talking about Nazis. Sullivan then tells them that his grandmother was one of them. Andy and Pruitt are amazed, as is normal.
Maya and Carina are sitting on lounge chairs by the pool, drinking piña coladas. Carina starts joking, telling her she’s too pale, and then a annoying guy approaches and tries to hit on them. They try to tell him they don’t need him to treat them to anything, that they’re fine, but the guy keeps insisting. Carina can’t take it anymore and says in Italian something like men are idiots, so Maya, without hesitation, suggests a push-up competition.
If he wins, he’ll buy them a drink, but if Maya wins, in addition to buying them a drink, she’ll go out for a bit of fresh air with her friends. Of course, Maya wins the competition. And what does she do after that? She goes and plants a kiss on Carina. Sublime.
The one now watching Warren’s ambulance is Teddy, Dr. Altman from Grey’s Anatomy. The doctor has a very different attitude than Owen and tells him that she is going to save many lives, so the firefighter offers her to be his partner, but she declines the offer because she is doing new things at the hospital.
At Travis’ awkward lunch, Alicia is showing him Emmett’s work and he’s dying of embarrassment and tells her to stop showing him pictures, but the firefighter says he really likes them and means it.
Still at the restaurant, Sullivan tells Andy and Pruitt how he found out his grandfather was a Nazi and how it affected him. He then tells us everything that happened in Germany during World War II, and then talks about the US immigration law and all the horrible things that undocumented immigrants go through. Sullivan isn’t a character I like very much, but I think it’s very necessary to touch on this topic and give it visibility.
Still in the restaurant, the image changes and we see two immigration police officers who are going after the undocumented cook pass right by the table where they are and Sullivan goes after them, Andy does the same.
Travis is in the locker room at the park and Alicia shows up, the girl wants to know if Emmett and him talk about personal things like their relationships and such, Travis tells her that he doesn’t know what straight people do and Alicia is surprised that he’s gay and then says that she always wanted to have a gay friend (oh my girl, really…), the situation ends up getting a little sad because Alicia says that she loves Emmett very much and that she wants to marry him and Travis is torn between what he knows about Emmett and the heartbreak that the poor girl is going to suffer.
Back at the restaurant, the chef tells the cops he had no idea the cook he’s hired was undocumented, Sullivan and Andy show up and he flashes his badge (he didn’t know firefighters wore badges too) saying they’ve been alerted to a possible fire, Andy being of Latino descent starts speaking to the cook in Spanish and tells him he doesn’t have to say anything until a lawyer is present, the firefighters put on a show saying the cook has second degree burns, then they call an ambulance to come get the cook.
Warren continues looking for a running mate, now trying with Jackson, who seems likely to be the candidate, and then they receive a call. The call arrives right in the restaurant kitchen. They’re the ambulance Sullivan called, and they take the cook away so he won’t be deported back to his country.
Firefighters begin to receive notification of a large fire, urging everyone to come to the scene.
Maya and Carina are kissing in bed, they are only wearing bathrobes, Maya’s phone rings and although the Italian woman begs her not to do that, the captain looks at it anyway, it’s the fire warning.
Maya starts to have a panic attack because she’s too far away to go and she’s the captain and thinks she should be with them, Carina tells her to focus on her and breathe and Maya starts to calm down.
I always say it, but it’s what we see in every episode, once again we see a vulnerable Maya with Carina and a Carina who is there for her.
Then Travis tells Emmett to be brave and tell Alicia that he’s gay because the girl is getting her hopes up and even wants to marry her, Travis’s ways don’t seem the best to me, he tells Emmett that he’s cruel. Although I agree that Emmett should be honest with Alicia, I don’t think pressuring him the way Travis does is the best, he himself should know that it’s not easy to come out of the closet and I don’t think it’s Emmett’s fault but rather the fault of this society in which we have to live.
The episode ends with the firefighters rushing to put out the massive blaze, except for Maya who is still on vacation with Carina 🙂
