Star Wars: Who Trained Boba Fett? Who Were His Mentors?

The storyline of Star Wars may revolve around the Jedi and the Sith, but we also know that there are other characters that fans have loved since the original trilogy. Boba Fett is one of the characters that fans have idolized since he first appeared because he carries the bravado of a seasoned warrior and bounty hunter in that badass suit of armor. We also know that Fett was arguably the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy during the era of the Empire. So, who trained Boba Fett?

Boba Fett has had a lot of different mentors. His first mentor was his father, Jango Fett, who allowed him to tag along during his missions. After Jango’s death, Boba joined Aurra Sing’s crew and worked with Cad Bane. In The Book of Boba Fett, he learned the fighting style of the Tusken Raiders from one of them.

Unlike most of the other bounty hunters in Star Wars, Boba Fett is as good as he is because he got to learn the tricks of the trade from different mentors and became a stronger fighter when he lived with the Tusken Raiders for a while. That is why he is as good as he is in what he does. Now, let’s look at all of Boba Fett’s mentors.

We all know that Jango Fett was the father of Boba Fett. Of course, Boba was designed to be the exact genetic copy of Jango and was unaltered, unlike all other clones (except for Omega). The reason why Jango wanted an unaltered clone was so that he could have a son that he could call his own. And it was clear that Boba went wherever Jango went.

Like the Jedi, the Mandalorians tend to have apprentices of their own. These apprentices learn on the field, which was why Boba accompanied his father in his missions. As young as Boba was, Jango wasn’t afraid of teaching him the ways of the bounty hunter and what it meant to be a Mandalorian. And that was why Boba was with Jango in Kamino and Geonosis.

Unfortunately, Boba couldn’t learn everything that he could possibly learn from his father because Jango died in the First Battle of Geonosis. Boba was left orphaned at a young age but managed to find a way to get by, especially because he could use the survival skills that he learned from his father.

After Jango’s death, Boba joined Aurra Sing’s crew. This was seen in Star Wars: Clone Wars, where Boba was a vengeful boy who wanted to kill Jedi Master Mace Windu for killing his father. And that was why he learned some of the trade tricks from Aurra Sing, a seasoned bounty hunter quite skilled in what she did.

Do You Need to Watch ‘Boba Fett’ Before ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’?
Aurra Sing was familiar with Jango Fett because most bounty hunters had previously worked together. In that regard, she was willing to take the young boy in as her protégé while working together. One of the most important things Sing taught Boba was that bounty hunters could only trust themselves. But while Boba found comfort in Sing’s teachings, she left him behind after they failed to assassinate Mace Windu, as Fett learned the hard way that bounty hunters only care about themselves.

Bossk
While working with Sing, Boba Fett became more of a criminal than a bounty hunter as he worked with a Trandoshan bounty hunter named Bossk. Because Bossk was working with Aurra, he was also one of the mentors that taught the tricks of the trade to a young Boba, who ended up seeing how valuable it was to work with professional allies in bounty hunting. As such, it was through Bossk that Boba Fett learned that working with true professionals who also knew what they were doing was important.

Eventually, Bossk turned into one of the allies that Boba worked with after their incarceration in Coruscant. That means that Bossk was not only a mentor but was also one of the people that worked under Boba, especially because they could mutually benefit from one another.

Cad Bane
The most notorious of Boba Fett’s mentors was a Duros bounty hunter named Cad Bane, who also learned the tricks of the trade from Jango Fett and was the only one that could rival Boba’s father in terms of his skills as a bounty hunter. After Jango’s death, Bane became the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy and was so skilled in what he did that he could fight Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on par while giving headaches to the Republic and the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. As such, there was no better bounty hunter to learn from than Cad Bane.

It was during their imprisonment in Coruscant that Boba became Bane’s apprentice, and they ended up working together on different bounties after that. Boba learned the finer aspects of bounty hunting while working with Bane, and it was the fact that Duros bounty hunter was so notorious in the field of bounty hunting that allowed him to teach Fett what it meant to build a reputation in their chosen line of work.

Are Cad Bane And Thrawn The Same Race (Chiss)?
The one thing known about Cad Bane was that he always charged a premium for his services because his services were worth the price. As such, Boba Fett eventually built a premium reputation for himself because he learned from the best in that field. And that was why Fett became one of the most well-known bounty hunters in the galaxy during the era of the Empire.

Even though Boba learned under Bane, they didn’t trust each other because bounty hunters seldom trusted their own allies. The storyline between the two was never finished in the events of Clone Wars, but we saw the relationship’s culmination in The Book of Boba Fett when Cad Bane worked for the Pyke Syndicate to bring his former apprentice down. While Bane was still the better and quicker shooter, Boba’s new set of skills allowed him to bring down and kill Bane. And Boba’s final mentor was the one that taught him the skills that allowed him to defeat his greatest mentor.

Tusken Raider Warrior
tusken warrior
After he survived the Sarlacc’s belly and had his armor stolen by Jawas right after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett was captured by the Tusken Raiders. However, after he saved one of them, Boba became an honorary member of the Tusken Raider tribe and was able to learn their ways from the most prominent Tusken Raider warrior, who remains unnamed.

During his time with the Tusken Raiders, Boba Fett learned the importance of working with a family or tribe. That was why he decided to take over the gotra that Jabba the Hutt left behind in Mos Espa during the events of The Book of Boba Fett. He became the new Daimyo of Mos Espa and was seemingly more of a leader that protected the people of Mos Espa instead of a corrupt gangster. And he learned the value of being a true leader of a tribe from the Tusken Raiders.

Of course, one of the concrete lessons he learned from his Tusken Raider mentor was the skill he used to defeat Cad Bane. Because he didn’t have his armor or weapons while living with the Tusken Raiders for years, he had to learn how to use a gaderffii stick. And that was why he became a more skilled warrior with close-combat skills that complemented the ones he mastered during his days as a bounty hunter.
