Star Wars: What Is Rey’s Palpatine Midi-Chlorian Count?

When Rey was introduced during the events of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, she was innately strong in the Force and had talents that exceeded what most Jedi were capable of. Of course, this was because she was a Palpatine and was the daughter of one of the failed non-Force-sensitive clones of Emperor Sheev Palpatine. That was why she was talented in the Force, as her talents were innate. But what was Rey Palpatine’s midi-chlorian count?

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

While it was never confirmed, Rey is estimated to have a midi-chlorian count of around 14,000. She is obviously stronger than the average Force user but not up to par with the powers of characters like Anakin, Palpatine, Yoda, and Luke. It is possible that Rey currently has a higher midi-chlorian count.

Rey’s rise as an important Star Wars character can never be forgotten as she went on to carry the sequel trilogy on her back even though she was destined to be the successor of Sheev Palpatine. She showcased how everyone had a choice in terms of whether or not they were willing to fall to the dark side, as she ultimately chose to be good. Let’s look at Rey’s midi-chlorian count to determine how powerful she is.

Rey’s Estimated Midi-Chlorian Count
When she was introduced as the next big hero of the Star Wars storyline, Rey quickly rose to prominence in the ways of the Force because of her innate talent. After all, even without prior training as a Jedi, she was strong enough to resist Kylo Ren’s powers when he was probing into her mind. Rey also showcased her talents with the lightsaber when she matched an injured Kylo Ren despite not having prior training as a Jedi.

Of course, Rey became even more powerful when she started training as a Jedi under Luke Skywalker. Her training was completed when she went on to learn under Leia Organa. And what was clear was that she had innate talent in the ways of the Force because she was powerful enough to learn how to be a Jedi in a matter of a few years.

In the world of Star Wars, a person’s midi-chlorian count is what determines their potential in the Force. Those who are Force-sensitive have midi-chlorian counts of at least 7,000. Considering that Rey was stronger than the regular Force user, we can assume that her midi-chlorian count was much higher than most Jedi.

We also learned during the events of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker that Rey was actually a Palpatine. Her relationship with the former emperor was made clear when Darth Sidious said that one of his failed clones had a child that eventually became Rey. Due to Rey’s innate strength in the Force, her good-natured father tried to keep her away from Emperor Palpatine.

Considering that Rey was a Palpatine and that Sheev was likely the strongest Sith in a thousand years, it is possible that Rey had a midi-chlorian count that was quite high. Palpatine was said to have around 20,000 in terms of his midi-chlorian count. And he was extraordinarily powerful because he was the culmination of a thousand years of Sith Lords killing their masters to become stronger.

As such, Rey likely had a midi-chlorian count of at least 14,000. This is only an estimation because the concept of midi-chlorians was never actually explored by Star Wars a lot. Nevertheless, Rey’s midi-chlorian count should have been higher than most Force users because of her innate talent and bloodline relationship with Darth Sidious.

The average Jedi has a midi-chlorian count of around 10,000. But it was always clear that Rey wasn’t average, as she was far stronger than most Jedi during the time of the Republic. As such, it is safe to say that her midi-chlorian count was at least 14,000. And that number could be higher because she progressed in her training as a Jedi faster than most other Force users.

How Strong Is Rey?
Of course, due to her high midi-chlorian count and innate talents as a Palpatine by blood, Rey was very strong and was far stronger than most Jedi, even though she never trained in the ways of the Force before the events of The Force Awakens. As mentioned, the average Jedi has a midi-chlorian count of around 10,000. And because Rey’s midi-chlorian count was higher, she was able to progress in her training at a rapid rate.

Rey showed incredible prowess in the Force when she could resist Kylo Ren when he used his Force abilities to probe into her mind. And considering that Kylo Ren was born a Skywalker, he was also innately powerful in the Force and was far more powerful than most Jedi.

In The Force Awakens, Rey was able to match an injured Ren in a lightsaber fight, although it is possible that Kylo would have easily defeated her if he wasn’t injured. Rey continued to match Kylo Ren’s abilities throughout the entire storyline, even though the former Ben Solo still had a more refined skill set.

Then, in The Rise of Skywalker, Rey showed her talents in the dark side when she and Kylo Ren were using their Force powers on a First Order shuttle. In her attempt to bring the shuttle back down to the ground, Rey accidentally accessed her nature as a Palpatine when she used Force Lightning, destroying the shuttle in the process. As such, it was clear that she was always powerful in the dark side and might have been more talented in the Force if she had chosen to walk the path of the dark side.

Did Rey’s Midi-Chlorian Count Increase?
During the final confrontation with Palpatine’s clone, Rey and Ben had their powers siphoned by the former emperor as Sidious was allowed to rise up as the strongest Sith ever. Meanwhile, Rey became empowered by the spirit of all of the Jedi that came before her as she used her powers to defeat Palpatine once and for all. Of course, this revived a battle-worn Rey using his powers as he sacrificed his entire being to bring her back to life.

As such, there is a good chance that Rey became stronger in the Force after the end of The Rise of Skywalker. That’s because she temporarily obtained the powers of all of the Jedi and was revived by Ben Solo using his own Force powers. It is possible that what she went through at the end of The Rise of Skywalker increased her talents in the Force, which opens up the possibility that her midi-chlorian count also increased.

This means that there’s a good chance that Rey’s midi-chlorian count had reached a level that exceeded her own grandfather’s midi-chlorian count. As such, she may currently be around 20,000 in terms of her midi-chlorian count. This makes her one of the strongest Force users of all time but still not as strong as the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker.
