Star Wars Theory Explained: Was Rey Pregnant in The Rise of Skywalker?

We all know that Rey will have a new Star Wars film that will showcase how she rebuilds the Jedi Order 15 years after the defeat of Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. But the most interesting fact shown in that movie was the relationship between Rey and Ben Solo (Kylo Ren), as they were a fated duo meant to have intertwined lives. That relationship with Kylo Ren made fans think there might be something more to this Dyad. So, was Rey pregnant in The Rise of Skywalker?

Nothing has been confirmed regarding Rey’s possible pregnancy, but we aren’t dismissing the possibility that she might have gotten pregnant. Of course, because the next Star Wars story featuring her character is set 15 years later, we may see Rey’s child training to become a Jedi.

Even though many fans weren’t exactly happy about the events of The Rise of Skywalker, it leaves a lot of things open for interpretation. We are talking about the possibility of Rey being pregnant, as this isn’t something we can just dismiss, even though it was never confirmed to be true. So, with that said, let’s talk more about the clues behind Rey’s possible pregnancy.

Could Rey Be Pregnant?
The events that happened right after Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker tend to be unknown because this is a part of the Star Wars storyline yet to be explored. However, we will finally see what’s next for Rey because she will be featured as the central character of a new movie set 15 years after defeating Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker.

But before we talk about that, some fans are speculating about the possibility of Rey being pregnant during the events of Episode IX. Of course, this was never really talked about in the movie and was never confirmed by any people working on The Rise of Skywalker. Then again, we have some clues that point to the possibility that Rey might have gotten pregnant in that movie.

The Fertility Necklace
During the events of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey and her friends went to the Aki-Aki Festival of Life, where Rey was warmly greeted by Nambi Ghima, who gave her a yellow fertility necklace. Of course, when discussing fertility, we can’t help but relate it to the possibility of a woman getting pregnant.

While many things were left unanswered in The Rise of Skywalker, this fertility necklace indicates that Rey will become pregnant at one point. After all, why would the director include this scene if it didn’t have a hidden meaning behind it? As such, it is possible that this scene of Rey receiving a fertility necklace was a clue to her future as a mother.

The Skywalker Name
Even though we know that Rey is a Palpatine by blood, we also know that she never knew her family name until it was revealed to her that she was connected to the emperor. But she also rejected her bloodline because she understood that Sheev Palpatine was an evil man that only wanted to consolidate all power to himself. As such, she defied her grandfather and continued the Skywalker legacy by finally putting an end to Darth Sidious once and for all.

Is John Boyega’s Finn Coming Back in a New Star Wars Movie? Here’s What We Know
In the final scene of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey is asked about her family name when she visits the house where Luke Skywalker grew up, and Rey responds that she was a Skywalker even though she wasn’t related to the Skywalkers.

While some people believed that she chose her fate by choosing to become a Skywalker, considering that she was close to both Luke and Leia, this could also mean that she was a Skywalker in the legal sense because of her connection to Ben Solo, who is a Skywalker from his mother’s side. Ben, known as Kylo Ren, was Rey’s love interest in the sequel films.

And while Ben died without marrying Rey, their connection was so strong that it seemed to indicate that Rey was just as much a Skywalker as he was. As such, it is possible that she chose the Skywalker name because she was pregnant with the child of a Skywalker.

Ben Healing Rey
In the scene wherein Rey healed Kylo Ren using the Force, she had his hand over her heart. However, in a similar scene wherein Ben was healing Rey using his life force, he had his hand over Rey’s womb.

We all know this healing power is done by transferring one’s life force to another person. This is why Ben died, as he exhausted himself when he healed Rey. But when he transferred his life force into Rey by healing her with his hand over her womb, he was probably also transferring himself into her to create life without even realizing what he was doing.

The Purpose of The Dyad
The Dyad concept was only introduced in the events of The Rise of Skywalker, as Palpatine talked about how powerful this connection between Rey and Kylo Ren was. Of course, the concept of the Dyad wasn’t explained in full detail, but we all know that it had enough power to bring back Palpatine’s power and allow him to become the strongest Sith in the history of Star Wars.

Nevertheless, the concept of the Dyad might have a deeper meaning. When we talk about a man and a woman being connected by fate, it usually means that they are fated to fall in love and reproduce. As such, the concept of the Dyad allowed Rey and Ben to have fates that were intertwined in the sense that they were possibly meant to have a child together.

We know that Rey and Ben belong to the two most prominent Force families in recent memory—Palpatine in Skywalker. As such, considering that they were the Dyad and were fated to have intertwined lives, it probably also meant that they were fated to have a child that would unite two families at war. And that is why Rey is possibly pregnant with a Skywalker baby with the same Palpatine blood that courses through her veins.

The Skywalker Saga Goes Full Circle
The Skywalker Saga started when Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious tried to influence the Midi-chlorians to create life. Instead, the Force created the prophesized Chosen One as a form of revenge for their attempt to try to do something that they were never meant to do. And that was how Shmi Skywalker got pregnant without even having a partner to impregnate her.

In a sense, Shmi was impregnated by the Force in a manner that is not unlike the Virgin Mary story of Christianity. As she told Qui-Gon Jinn, “There was no father.” And this seems to be the same case about Rey.

It is possible that Rey got pregnant with Ben’s child through the power of the Force, as their connection through the Dyad made this phenomenon possible. If that’s the case, then the entire Skywalker Saga goes full circle with a woman getting pregnant with a Skywalker baby through the power of the Force.

The 15-Year Gap
Some people might be wondering why there is a need for 15 years between the end of The Rise of Skywalker and the sequel movie featuring Rey. After all, we only needed to see five years between the end of Return of the Jedi and The Book of Boba Fett to see Luke Skywalker rebuilding the Jedi Order.

The fact that the story has a 15-year gap indicates that 15 years were needed for Rey to raise a child to become a teenager that is training to become a Jedi. As we all know, most Padawans are young teenagers that need years to train under a master to become a Jedi Knight. So, if Rey was indeed pregnant in Episode IX, 15 years are more than enough for her to be able to give birth and raise her child to become a teenager that is old enough to train as a Padawan.

If that’s the case, the next Star Wars movie might not be about Rey but the next Skywalker generation in the form of her child. And this allows the entire Star Wars franchise to start fresh with a true-blooded Skywalker that could carry the storyline into the future.

How Did Rey Become Pregnant?
We followed the story of Rey and Kylo Ren throughout the three sequel movies. There was never a point wherein they had a chance to reproduce in a biological sense, and we are saying that they didn’t have sex. So, if that’s the case, how did Rey get pregnant?

Well, as mentioned, Kylo Ren used the Force to heal an injured Rey during the final scenes of The Rise of Skywalker. He had his hand over her womb when he transferred his life energy to her to heal her. This killed Ben Solo as he had to exhaust his life force to revive Rey.

As such, it is possible that he did not only transfer his life energy to Rey but also his essence through the Force. And the fact that he was transferring his life to Rey by holding his hand over her womb seems to give us a clue that he was also transferring life into her womb and allowing her to conceive a child.

So, if that’s the case, that would mean Rey got pregnant through the power of the Force, similar to how the Force impregnated Shmi. However, this time, there is a clear father in the form of Ben Solo, who might have transferred his essence into Rey before dying.
