Star Wars: The Mandalorian Producer Comments on Uncertain Fourth Season

Star Wars producer Dave Filoni addresses the future of The Mandalorian following the announcement of a tie-in film.

Amid speculation about the future of Disney+’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian amid the development of The Mandalorian & Grogu film, producer Dave Filoni insists he’s leaving all options on the table amid rampant speculation.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the 51st Saturn Awards, Filoni wouldn’t rule out The Mandalorian Season 4 happening despite the affiliated Jon Favreau-helmed film being in development. According to a coy Filoni, “There’s so much spinning in the galaxy right now. You know me better than to commit to any one thing.” With a smirk on his face, Filoni also said, “No mind trick works on me,” as he looked to keep Star Wars fans guessing about what to expect with The Mandalorian going forward.

When the development of The Mandalorian & Grogu was confirmed in January, many Star Wars fans assumed the news meant Season 4 of The Mandalorian series was playing out on the big screen. However, subsequent reports shortly after the announcement confirmed The Mandalorian Season 4 is still in development at Lucasfilm, although no production or plot details have been revealed. Star Katee Sackhoff, who features as Bo-Katan Kryze in the Disney+ series, also alluded to Season 4 being in the works, recently teased her impending return.

The Mandalorian May or May Not Get Its Fourth Season

The Mandalorian has been a strong success for Disney since its 2019 debut, though Season 3 received a more mixed reception than usual. The series features Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, the above-mentioned Sackhoff, Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Filoni himself as the New Republic human pilot, Trapper Wolf.

Amid the buzz around Season 4 of the TV show and its associated film, The Mandalorian also starred Carl Weathers as Greef Karga. Weathers, who was also a director on The Mandalorian, passed away on Feb. 1 at his Los Angeles home, prompting tributes from several of his co-stars including Pascal and Sackhoff, as well as a former actor in the series, Gina Carano.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to begin filming this year, though there are no confirmations as yet regarding how many of the characters from The Mandalorian will feature. Filoni will produce alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian franchise.
