Star Wars: The Acolyte Finally Gets Release Window on Disney+
Star Wars: The Acolyte gets an exciting update with its release window at Disney+ revealed.
Per Collider, it has been reported that Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ in Summer 2024. Created by Leslye Headland, The Acolyte first started its development in 2020, and it will begin filming in 2022. Filming was wrapped on the first season in June 2023, but it has since been unclear when the show will be arriving on Disney+. Although an exact date has yet to be announced, the Summer 2024 release window will give fans a much better idea of when to expect the anticipated series to finally make its streaming debut. It also coincides with rumors that the show was planned for a mid-2024 release.
Star Wars: The Acolyte is a prequel to the prequel trilogy, set 50 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The show will follow a “former Jedi Padawan and her one-time Masterher one-time Master as they fall into an investigation of sinister crimes in an ever-changing galaxy.” Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) leads the cast alongside Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game). The series also stars Joonas Suotamo (Willow), who took over the role of Chewbacca from Peter Mayhew in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, though he’ll be playing a different Wookiee character named Kelnacca. Jodie Turner-Smith (White Noise), Manny Jacinto (Top Gun: Maverick), Dafne Keen (Logan), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), and Charlie Barnett (Tales of the City) also star.
Disney+ Has Lots of Star Wars Content in the Works
The Acolyte is one of several upcoming Star Wars shows in the works at Disney+. Another anticipated show that is coming soon is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which stars Jude Law and comes from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. This series is also expected to be released on Disney+ in 2024, but a date hasn’t been announced. There are also new seasons of other Star Wars shows soon coming to the streamer, with The Bad Batch Season 2 premiering on Feb. 21. A new season of the animated series Tales of the Jedi is also set to arrive sometime this year, and it was recently confirmed that Ahsoka Season 2 is now in the works. As for The Mandalorian, a fourth season is still reported happening despite The Mandalorian & Grogu soon starting production.
Star Wars: The Acolyte will be coming to Disney+ in Summer 2024 with an exact date yet to be announced.
