Star Wars: Entire Skywalker Saga Marathon Is Coming to Theaters
Previously it had been announced that the first chapter of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Phantom Menace, would be coming back to theaters for this year’s May the 4th weekend. Per StarWars.com, it’s now been announced that the film will be joined by the subsequent eight chapters of what’s known as the Skywalker Saga. That includes all three prequel films, followed by the original movie trilogy and the sequel trilogy. Tickets will go on sale starting on Friday, March 22, at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET.
In chronological order, the Skywalker Saga of the Star Wars franchise consists of 1999’s Episode I – The Phantom Menace, 2002’s Episode II – Attack of the Clones, 2005’s Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, 1977’s Episode IV – A New Hope, 1980’s Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, 1983’s Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, 2015’s Episode VII – The Force Awakens, 2017’s Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, and 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
New Footage of The Acolyte Will Appear on the Big Screen
Additionally, it has been confirmed that exclusive footage of Star Wars: The Acolyte, the upcoming Disney+ series, will be included with screenings of The Phantom Menace. This corroborates rumors that a sneak peek at The Acolyte would be featured, though it follows the recent release of the official trailer, which debuted the first footage. Those who attend the screenings will also be given a special limited edition poster.
The classic films won’t be the only Star Wars movies fans can look forward to seeing on the big screen. It was recently announced that The Mandalorian will be getting a tie-in film that brings Din Djarin and Grogu to theaters with their own feature film. Called The Mandalorian & Grogu, it was reported that the movie is getting fast-tracked with plans to start filming in 2024. However, a release date hasn’t yet been set for the movie.
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkins has also confirmed that her planned Star Wars movie, based on Rogue Squadron, is getting back into gear. The film was shelved when Jenkins was planning to work on a third Wonder Woman movie, but changes at DC Studios resulted in that project getting nixed. That opened the door for Jenkins to head back to Lucasfilm to resume writing the screenplay for Rogue Squadron.
