The Rise of the Skywalker star Daisy Ridley opened up about her highly-anticipated return in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s untitled Star Wars movie.

During a recent interview with Variety, Ridley praised the Oscar-winning filmmaker for her “amazing” story idea for Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars project, which makes her return as Rey worth it. The British actor admitted that if it weren’t for Obaid-Chinoy’s story, she probably wouldn’t have signed on. “I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman,” she said. “Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as sh**. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, ‘OK, call me in five years.’ But it’s worthwhile.”

When she was a teenager, Jodie Foster was offered the iconic role of Princess Leia, but the future Oscar winner turned it down.

Ridley’s Rey was first introduced as a lone scavenger in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which took place three decades after the events of the original trilogy. Her character was last seen by fans in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, which ended with Rey officially becoming a Skywalker following the Resistance’s victory against The First Order. The fan-favorite character’s story is officially continuing in Obaid-Chinoy’s untitled Star Wars movie, which will see Rey trying to reestablish the Jedi Order.

Further details about the project are still being kept under wraps, but recent rumors suggested that Ridley would be getting a massive payday for her return. In a previous interview, Ridley explained what convinced her to come back to the Star Wars universe. “I thought about it for a little bit and once I knew what the story was and everything I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
