Some Disappointing News About ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 and Release Date Away

There’s no doubt that everyone is looking forward to Bridgerton Season 4 after Season 3, Season 1, and Season 2 have aired. The show has apparently been renewed for a long time, but there’s some pretty bad news about Season 4, according to a new update.

A new production listing shows that the start date for filming Bridgerton Season 4 has been pushed back to mid-September and will now run until April 2025. It was originally supposed to film this summer, but that’s now been pushed back a bit, meaning a later release date than when the final episode aired. Previously, showrunner Jess Brownell spoke about how they couldn’t get the gap between seasons down to less than two years: “We’re working on getting the seasons out quicker, but it takes eight months to shoot and then you have to edit, then you have to dub into every language,” she continued. “And the writing takes a long time, so we’re on a two-year timeline, we’re trying to speed it up but it’s somewhere in there.”

For reference, Bridgerton season 3 finished filming in March 2023 and the show is in post-production until it’s released in May 2024. That’s over a year in post-production, although there were some interruptions due to the writers’ strike.

If we’re just talking about a fixed two-year gap between seasons, that would be May 2026. But if we’re going to base it on season 3’s post-production timeline, if filming ends for season 4 in April 2025, then 14 months would be June 2026. So this delay definitely pushes it back a bit.

With eight main books adapted in the Bridgerton series, if there are no more to be written, Netflix will most likely make new Bridgerton seasons in the mid-to-late 2030s, if the 2-2.5 year gap between seasons remains, and that seems to be the plan. I’m not sure Netflix would care, as they want the big hit to last as long as possible, and even with eight books, there are still side stories that can be adapted by others in the gap, as we saw with the Queen Charlotte prequel.

With Stranger Things coming to an end after season 5, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bridgerton takes over as Netflix’s most popular show right now, even if something like Squid Game season 2 hits the jackpot. I think its main competition will be Wednesday. But yeah, mid-season, it’s going to be a long wait.
