NCIS: Los Angeles fans holding out hope for a revival just hit a major roadblock. Chris O’Donnell, who played G. Callen for 14 seasons, has officially joined 9-1-1: Nashville as the series lead — a move that all but confirms NCIS: LA won’t be returning anytime soon.
O’Donnell will star as Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse while juggling family secrets. It’s his first major procedural role since NCIS: LA ended in 2023, and it puts him front and center in ABC’s newest 9-1-1 spinoff debuting in fall 2025.
While fans have long hoped for an NCIS: LA comeback — especially after the mothership series referenced the team still being active — O’Donnell leading another weekly drama makes a revival nearly impossible. Actors can’t realistically headline two major network shows at the same time, and an LA revival without Callen simply wouldn’t work.
