“Simple request, right?”: The Big Bang Theory Writers Honored Kaley Cuoco’s 1 Major Request For The Final Season

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco’s one final request was respectfully honored by the writers in the series finale.

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons, leaving a lasting impact on its audience that endures to this day. By the time the sitcom concluded, not only the cast and characters but also several iconic elements of the show had become memorable, with fans often reminiscing about the joyful moments.

Among these memorable aspects was the elevator in Leonard, Sheldon, and Penny’s building, which also became a subject of attention for the show’s star, Kaley Cuoco, who played Penny. Ahead of the finale, Cuoco expressed her desire for the elevator to be repaired by the end of the series.

Kaley Cuoco expressed her one wish for the final season of The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory came to an end after a successful 12-season run, becoming the longest-running multi-camera sitcom before it eventually came to an end in 2019. And when asked about how she would like the show to end, Kaley Cuoco expressed a simple yet meaningful wish, to get the elevator fixed.

In an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actress said, “I would like the elevator to get fixed… Simple request, right?” She further explained how using the stairs throughout the series had become increasingly tiring for the cast and their characters.

I mean, the stairs have gotten more and more exhausting as our seasons have gone on. Season 1 and 2 we’re running up there, and now it’s Season 12. We are all a little bit older, a little more difficult getting up those steps. So, I’d like that elevator to work.

The elevator in the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory has been one of the many notable elements of the show, often serving as the major element and the backdrop of many key moments of the sitcom.

True to Cuoco’s wish, the writers honored her request, and by the series finale, the elevator was finally fixed, giving fans a satisfying conclusion to this long-running gag.

The Big Bang Theory writers granted Kaley Cuoco’s wish in the final season of the sitcom

From Leonard daydreaming about taking Penny downstairs to Sheldon scheming to transform it into a missile silo, the broken elevator in The Big Bang Theory consistently adds depth to the characters’ stories.

One of the most significant events involving the elevator occurs when Leonard tests an experimental rocket fuel formula, leading to an explosion. Sheldon saves Leonard’s life by pulling him out and shutting the elevator just in time.

However, throughout its long run, the elevator remains broken, a recurring gag frequently referenced by both the characters and guest stars. And to the show’s writers’ credit, her wish was granted, after Kaley Cuoco expressed her wish to have it repaired for the final season of the show.

Season 12 Episode 23 The Change Constant features Penny walking out of the elevator, remarking, “Can you believe it? They finally fixed the elevator!” As it has been, the elevator also plays a central role in the final episode.

In the series finale, the group humorously struggles to fit their luggage inside before Leonard suggests sending the luggage in the elevator while they take the stairs, wrapping up the long-running gag in classic Big Bang Theory style.
