Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte has become a massive hit – with Shonda Rhimes praising lead India Amarteifio for taking on the starring role.
Queen Charlotte has become Netflix’s latest smash hit, with viewers falling head over heels for her love story with King George.
With the Bridgerton spin-off riding in the top spot of the streaming services most-watched charts, creator Shonda Rhimes has heaped praise on India Amarteifio, the leading lady of the prequel series.
Playing a younger version of Golda Rosheuvel’s character we’ve come to know and love in the main Bridgerton series, Rhimes has stated the “fantastic” young actress after tackling her breakthrough role.
Speaking to Town and Country magazine, Rhimes said: “India has such an amazing quality about herself. She has a sweetness, but there’s an undertone of steel in there and I really love that about her as a person, too.
“She very much knows who she is and very much seems to be comfortable inhabiting these characters, which is wonderful.”
Amarteifio has been acting from a young age, landing her first role at just eight months old.
She’s since appeared in shows including Sex Education, Doctor Who, and Line Of Duty.
The new season of Queen Charlotte is the star’s first major leading role.
Unfortunately, despite how well the show has performed, it’s likely there will only ever be one season.
However, as the first expansion of the Bridgerton world, Queen Charlotte has opened the doors to other sequels.
The main Bridgerton series is also still going, with season three already filmed and wrapped, and plans to launch later this year.
In a switch-up to how the books by Julia Quinn were laid out, season three will instead be focused on book four, Romancing Mr Bridgerton, which will put Colin and Penelope center stage.
