Season 7 of The Rookie was filled with twists and turns, but the storyline that had everyone hooked was Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy’s (Melissa O’Neil) possible reunion. The two’s split last season was not only a surprise to Lucy but to fans. It is a coupling many have been wanting for years and to have it ripped away so suddenly was upsetting and jarring. We were given some hope that the two would reconnect, but it didn’t happen in The Rookie season 7’s ending. Although we were teased with the possibility of a serious reunion, it makes me think we may have to wait a bit more.
In season 7, episode 18, “The Good, The Bad, and The Oscar,” we see Lucy advance in her career and instantly, everyone in their group is asking if they are getting back together. Even though Tim has admitted to growing and working on himself, it will likely be Lucy to shut it down for the time being in order to focus on herself for a change. Although this is not the outcome many Chenford supporters may want right now, it could be the beginning of a great and healthy relationship between them.
Lucy’s New Position Will Pose A Challenge In The Rookie Season 8
She’s Going To Be Focused On Her Latest Career Move
Lucy has always been career-driven. She has explored different positions in the department, such as training officer and undercover cop. When those were not a good fit, she finally settled on sergeant. With Tim’s help, she aces the exam and finally gets the advancement she has been craving. Unfortunately, the only position in immediate need of a sergeant is the night shift, something Lucy wasn’t expecting.
This immediately throws a wrench in any plans to get back together, because with this new position, the likelihood of the two of them even seeing each other is very slim. However, this is something Lucy has been working towards and Tim knows this. Tim has always been supportive of Lucy’s career and would never do anything to get in the way of that.
The team Lucy is assigned to is a chronic problem as they sleep their entire shift. She is going to be spending a lot of time brainstorming ideas to change their ways and make herself the best sergeant she can be. As such, Lucy’s time will be too tied up in work and her social life will probably take a backseat for a while. And Tim would never ask her to put him before her career.
Tim Knows He Has A Lot Of Work To Do To Make It Up To Lucy
He Broke Her Heart Once & Will Do Anything To Prove It Won’t Happen Again
When Tim broke up with Lucy initially, she was devastated at the sudden decision. It came out of nowhere because they were so in love. However, Tim knew he was in no position to give Lucy what she needed from him. Instead of talking to her and allowing her to make an informed decision about their relationship, he took it upon himself to “fix” it. For the longest time, it was hard to tell if she was even going to forgive him for what he did.
Although Lucy has given him an entire season to work on a new romance together, she may still be hesitant to commit to it once again. At the end of the season finale, Tim makes a grand gesture to show Lucy that he still loves her and is ready to begin the relationship once again. He even goes so far as to ask her to move in with him to accommodate her new job. With how stressful the transition to nights has been, Lucy does not hear this and falls asleep.
This trope will likely continue into The Rookie season 8 for at least a little while. It would give Tim the right amount of time to continue to work on himself and work on including Lucy in the conversation more often. As frustrating as it is for The Rookie fans that we will have to wait a bit longer, it will pay off in the end when she (hopefully) agrees.
