S.W.A.T. is back in action! CBS announced on Thursday that the series will continue for an eighth season, reversing its previous cancellation of the show after Season 7.
This latest twist in the S.W.A.T. saga comes after CBS initially announced in May 2023 that the sixth season would be the last. The network later decided to renew the show for Season 7, which was meant to be the finale. However, that season’s finale will now serve as the conclusion for Season 7, with more episodes set to air in the 2024-25 broadcast season.
Shemar Moore Celebrates Season 8 Renewal
Shemar Moore, who stars in and executive produces the series, took to Instagram to express his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support. “SWAT FAM!!!!!! The dream continues all because of YOU the FANS!!!!” he wrote. “We love y’all and wouldn’t be here without your continued love and support!!! Thank you to @cbstv and @sptv for believing in us !! Season 8 here we come!!! FILL THE GAPS … Let me hear you say the rest, Fam!!!”
In a video shared with the cast and crew, Moore celebrated the news, saying, “We gave them something to think about. Here we go baby, season 8 … un-canceled twice!”
A Miracle Renewal
Moore expressed his disbelief at the show’s unexpected revival, saying, “S.W.A.T. IS BACK! BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!” He praised the dedication of the cast and crew, noting, “I am so proud of this show and the people it has taken to make it what it is. I am incredibly grateful to fans worldwide who have supported and rooted for S.W.A.T.!”
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach also commented on the renewal, calling it a “good dramatic twist” and highlighting the show’s strong connection with viewers. “Thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers, we’re very pleased to renew it again,” she said.
While the future of S.W.A.T. beyond Season 8 remains uncertain, the network did not label it as the final season in its announcement.
