“She Wasn’t Supposed to Die”: The Chicago P.D. Character Fans Were Meant to See Again

One of Chicago P.D.’s most gut-wrenching deaths was that of Nadia—a young former escort turned aspiring cop who was killed by serial killer Gregory Yates. The moment shattered fans and changed Erin Lindsay forever.

But few people know that Nadia wasn’t meant to die.

According to early script drafts, Nadia was originally written to survive the kidnapping in Season 2, Episode 20. She would return, broken but alive, in the following season—starting her journey in the police academy.

So why the sudden rewrite?

“An executive from above wanted a bigger shock,” said one producer. “They said the episode needed ‘weight’ to justify the crossover. So we lost Nadia.”

Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay) was reportedly furious, believing her character’s growth arc was stolen. “That death changed Lindsay in a way we never planned,” a writer admitted. “It darkened her permanently.”

The rewritten ending may have served the ratings—but it came at the cost of a rising fan-favorite.
