Last summer on Days of Our Lives, Horton/Kiriakis matriarch Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) nearly walked down the aisle to wed sinister Konstantin (John Kapelos). Thankfully, they didn’t actually tie the knot, but like many fans, Rogers wasn’t loving the storyline for her character.
The veteran actress told Soaps.com that she felt it was too soon after the death of Maggie’s husband Victor (John Aniston) for the character to be falling in love again. And Konstantin wasn’t the type of man she could see Maggie really having that type of bond with, either, as he was “too aggressive” and Maggie was “no withering violet.”
Rogers shared that she felt it was as if Konstantin was trying to slip into Victor’s place, too. She continually expressed her concerns to the DAYS writing team, recalling:
I kept saying, with the scripts, ‘Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. She just lost the love of her life.’ And they said, ‘You know, this is the script. Do the script.’ So, yes, it was hard.
The kicker? Konstantin would bring Maggie inexpensive gifts, and Maggie’s “not bargain basement,” Rogers noted.
